The Experience

A creative combination of reclaimed materials and traditional skills has brought the old stone bergerie to its present glory. This is the labour of love of a warm, open and wonderfully down-to-earth English family, living their dream in an unspoilt corner of France. They live on the edge of the small farm and can tailor your entire holiday for you (shop, cook, entertain and babysit the kids) – Sarah even leaves homemade cake and other foodie treats for you – or you can lap up the luxury alone. Spacious, stylish and full of light, this house has three-seater sofas and huge French windows, antique beds and a claw-foot bath, luxurious sheets and super-deep pillows. There are a range-style cooker and a wood-burning stove, beautiful colours and every techie treat (DVDs, satellite channels). Outside: a big covered terrace with deep rattan chairs, a saltwater pool with stacks of loungers, an organic potager and hens whose produce you may plunder. For children, a pirate ship with slide, sandpit, climbing frame and telescope for stargazing. The picturesque village of Loupiac is up the road, lovely Figeac is a short hop, views sweep in every direction.

Reviews

Yet another wonderful holiday. The house is just as gorgeous and honestly the best holiday home that we have ever stayed in - immaculate, luxurious and comfortable. We always feel so relaxed and contented and we never sleep as well anywhere as we do here! It is a stunning place. The warm welcome, attention to every detail and frequent offerings have again made our holiday. The pool is fabulous; it's not often you get to watch butterflies floating around wild flowers whilst you do your lengths! The family have created a very special place indeed and we have already planned yet another return.

This was an absolute gem of a place. Sarah and David our hosts made us very welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the lap of genuine French luxury. We stayed in La Bergerie which is a stone barn conversion kitted out with every conceivable thing that you would need to make your stay comfortable. The swimming pool and sun patio are a short hop away. Brightly coloured butterflies everywhere made it feel at times almost tropical whilst retaining that French laissez faire. The Aveyron was a discovery of charming villages full of history and character a great way fill your days exploring.

Our stay here was fantastic thanks to our hosts and the standard of the accommodation. The house, pool and entire property were immaculate and felt more like a home than a holiday rental. The kitchen is very well equipped for whipping up feasts with produce from nearby village markets. Delicious freshly picked vegetables from their own gardens which were freely offered to us, an abundant supply of fresh eggs from their chickens and a lovely homemade cake appearing on day three highlight the efforts Sarah and her family put in. Tons of indoor and outdoor toys, DVDs, etc. to keep the kids happy.

We were lucky enough to be able to book Le Bouyssou thanks to a late cancellation. The house is charming, very comfortable and fantastically well equipped. The owners and their family were so welcoming, providing all sorts of hidden extras through our stay making it that bit more special. The beautiful salt water pool was faultlessly clean and of a perfect size, not often found in rental properties. The Aveyron was not a region of France with which we were over familiar. It is very charming with many pretty and interesting villages. It would be lovely to visit in the different seasons.

Location

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Sarah Jones

  • The tranquil setting of Le Bouyssou means that it is the perfect place to 'decompress' from the rigors of life - surrounded by valleys, woods and fields, step out of the door and set off in any direction for an enchanting walk or invigorating cycle ride.
  • Our department has ten of 'The Most Beautiful Villages' in France - the highest concentration of any department in the country. At every turn, you will encounter the most stunning architecture, medieval 'bastide' towns and villages and charming chateaux.
  • We are handy for St Cirq Lapopie and Conques, both voted as 'France's Favourite Village' in recent years: quaint, bursting with charm and totally unspoilt. Figeac (heralded as 'the best small town in France' by the press) is 15 mins.
  • The region's cuisine is famous (and very hearty!). This is 'duck' country and you will find it on the menu of the fabulous wealth of restaurants from just minutes away. Enviably, there are at least 3 Michelin star'd restaurants within easy reach.
  • Set in between the Cele and Lot rivers there are many, many canoe and kayak stations, some of the best river swimming in France (top 5 location), 'tree top' adventure courses (from age 3!) and a highly regarded equestrian centre at the bottom of the hill.
  • Weekly markets are a must with the one held in Villefranche de Rouergue being the 'second largest in France' and bursting with vibrancy in a our 'bastide' town. St Antonin Noble Val is the setting for both a splendid market and a recent Spielberg film.
