The waterfall, the wild orchids, the pool, the painted ladies, the super food – there’s no other place like it. Years ago Theresa and her late husband fell for this big romantic house, its wildlife-rich domaine and its centuries-old cedars; the enthusiasm remains undiminished, the sensitive restoration shows in every room. But the sober buildings don’t prepare you for the explosion inside… late 19th-century painter Mario Cavaglieri spread his love of form and colour over ceilings and doors. Now ‘his’ suite has vast space, fine antiques, a dream of a bathroom, dazzling murals. Heaven for children – or an anniversary treat.
