The Experience

Wind up and up the long, narrow country lane to discover a big ancient manor and views that sail over villages and valleys as far as the eye can see; the panorama is astounding. It’s tailor-made for families and especially lovely in summer, with parkland to roam and garden steps down to terraces and the pool.

Inside is enticingly comfy and homely, in spite of the impressive dimensions. Cook up feasts in the well-equipped kitchen (or let caretakers Kate and Michael rustle up dinner if you don’t feel like cooking), curl up in front of the wood-burner, and find games in the snug on the landing – table football and a hammock slung from the beams.

Head out into Quercy – it’s foodie heaven, rich in restaurants, auberges and markets glistening with produce. Walks leave from the doorstep to work up your appetite for the next meal.

A laid-back, totally relaxed holiday in an authentic chateau, more 19th C than 12th C decor, but who's quibbling? You'll spend all your time on the terrace or down by the pool anyway, and with Michael and kate catering to your every whim (almost), you will feel utterly spoilt. Sit back and enjoy the view.

Patricia, Sawday's Inspector

If you want to wake up in a superbly comfortable bed after a great night's sleep, enjoy breathtaking views whilst you dine on the terrace, unspoilt peace whilst you sunbathe and swim in the pool, easy access to picturesque villages, vineyards and markets then Chateau Calvayrac is the place to stay. Pure heaven and we will most definitely be returning soon.

We organised a family reunion, spanning three generations, at Calvayrac - and we absolutely loved it. It is a gorgeous and comfortable house, very well equipped, on equally stunning grounds. The pool is wonderful (non-chlorinated, just a saline system to clean it). There's a forest beyond it with mature plum trees; the children collected the fruit and we made delicious jam. We visited different fresh fruit, veg, bread, etc markets every day - the choice and quality of the produce was unbelievable. We only stayed for 2 weeks but wished we had had the time for more. A relaxing magical place!

The neighbourhood

The house sits on the northern slope of the Lot valley looking out over vineyards and gently rolling wooded hills. It is seemingly remote but Prayssac is only five minutes by car; find a variety of shops, restaurants and a wonderful Friday market. Head to Castelfranc for a riverside beach (10 minutes)or picturesque cliffside town Puy L'Evêque - catch Shakespeare performances in summer.
