The Experience

Sunny days will be spent idling by the wide pool, or pottering around the very beautiful garden to discover a lake with a mown path around it (and yes, a couple of loungers here too for those who like to sneak off) then a poplar plantation, all green shade and rustling leaves. A large, airy garden room sits to one side of the courtyard with barbecue, drinks cooler and plenty of seating.

Thick walls will keep you cool in summer, the kitchen is big enough for everybody to cook together and you’re left local produce from the village including award-winning bread, local goat’s cheese and a bottle of organic Cahors wine. Walk 10 minutes down to the fabulous bakery for your morning baguette or croissants then amble back to spend a bit more time doing nothing more energetic than picking up a book.

On rainy days you can watch a film, play a board game or relax in the garden room and wait for the sun.

Reviews

A really magical place in a magical location. The gite has everything you could ask for, with a beautiful pool and outside space. Cazals is a lovely little town, with a brilliant bakery, farm store and a very nice Auberge for dinner which does great value food and wine / champagne. There are lots of excellent restaurants in the surrounding area. We have not visited this part of France before and no idea why!

Louise, Cambridge

La Grange du Lac is set within a beautiful garden, edged by an orchard, wildflower meadow, lake and woodlands giving it a totally private feeling. The gite is perfectly presented and appointed with everything you could possibly need. Our charming host Serge was on hand when needed and very helpful with local knowledge and restaurant recommendations. The Cazals market on Sunday was teeming with delicious local produce - the wild strawberries are quite incredible! We had the most relaxing and spoiling week in this idyllic place. Thank you Serge and family for having us!

Sarah, Ripon

We have a wonderful stay at Grange du Lac in Cazals. The accommodation was fantastic and Serge was a fantastic host offering plenty of useful information and suggestions locally and further afield. We will certainly return.

Ben, Guildford

As a family of four we had a wonderful stay in July. The house is tastefully decorated and there are so many wonderful extras that you can often find it difficult to leave. Our teenagers loved the pool, table tennis and boules! It’s a 10 minute walk to town, for supplies, and the Sunday food market is fabulous - everything you could need. Serge is wonderfully helpful with suggestions of where to visit and even helped with our trip to the vet. Thank you for a memorable stay!

Clare, Windsor

La Grange du Lac is everything you would want from a gite holiday, we loved staying here for our first wedding anniversary. There were so many lovely spaces to enjoy outside and around the garden, and the gite was so well-equipped that we barely left; only to wander into the village for the incredible baguettes from the bakery and ice cream from the farm shop! Serge couldn't have been more helpful with local tips. We hope to be back again next year for a longer stay!

Alice, Bristol

The photos do not do it justice, this place is a little slice of heaven. Absolutely beautiful setting, very comfortable and well-equipped gite, stunning gardens and pool area. Plentiful space for 4 people and lots of stylish and thoughtful touches. Serge was an amazing host, so welcoming and helpful with any requests both before and during our visit. A 10 minute walk into Cazals and you have everything you could ever need, including the most incredible Sunday food market. Do not worry about finding good food and drink while you are here! We had a wonderful week here and would love to return.

Rosie, Amersham

Everything a french holiday should be. Delightful, helpful hosts, a beautiful spacious, nicely furnished and comfortable gite whatever the temperature outside. Outside was outstanding. A large and beautiful pool with a small paddling area and a huge covered seating/eating area. Large grounds, a lake and a boules court. The village was within walking distance. The area is quieter than the Dordogne but has some good restaurants.

Sue, Salisbury

Serge is the quintessential ideal host. He’s extremely helpful and accommodating. His Gite is spacious and beautifully appointed. It really is the best place to stay in the entire region, as my local friends will attest.

Jack, Piedmont, California

Best gîte we’ve ever stayed in … and we’ve been to many, all over the world! The luxuries like the pool were great but it’s the attention to detail & little extras that count. Very comfortable beds & lovely linen & soft furnishings, deep bath, soft lighting, everything you could need in the kitchen. We were greeted warmly by Serge & his family who gave us helpful tips & were very welcoming. We will return!

Sophie, Corrèze

A great place to stay. Such a warm welcome from Serge and his family. The welcome gifts were thoughtful, delicious and very much appreciated. The location is perfect - a short walk to local shops, restaurants and weekly market and for exploring the many attractions in the Lot and Dordogne. The gite and pool are very clean and well cared for and you can see the care Serge and Sam take in maintaining the property. Serge provided lots of useful local information and was particularly kind and helpful when we had a problem with our car. Highly recommended.

Jude and Alistair, Southampton

Absolutely wonderful stay in a beautiful part of France. The house is stunning and had a perfect amount of space...might sound weird but having a utility room just helped with storage etc for 2 weeks! Serge and Sam were so helpful with recommendations where needed. The pool is gorgeous and the icing on the cake is that Cazals is a 5 minute walk with the best bread and some great little shops including a butcher/epicerie, antiques shop and lovely little restaurant. Hoping to return!

Ben, Weybridge

Really beautiful and comfortable gite, with particularly lovely terrace and pool area. The property was well equipped and the owner, Serge very helpful and friendly. We particularly appreciated the welcome gift of delicious local wine, bread and cheese! It’s a short walk into the village of Cazals for daily supplies - award-winning bakery and great farm shop, no less. We had a brilliant week - highly recommended!

Gill, London

A really lovely gite within easy walking distance of a village with an award winning bakery, a café for morning coffee and an excellent cheese shop. What more could anyone want?

Nadia, Poole

A delightful gite conveniently situated for visiting the major sights all within an hour's leisurely drive but away from the crowds when rest and relaxation beckon. In beautiful grounds with a lake and swimming pool, the property is well presented and has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Communication with our charming host Serge was excellent, always on hand to offer advice. The village is within walking distance, has everything you require and holds a market each week. Further afield there is a Super U and petrol station open daily. We would definitely recommend and return.

John, Thames Ditton

We had a fantastic stay at this lovely property. Serge was a friendly and helpful host. The property was immaculate and very comfortable and the pool, gardens and lake are just stunning. We will definitely like to return here again one day.

Liz, London

This is one of the best holiday experience we’ve ever had. The barn is beautiful and spacious and has everything you need for a comfortable stay - pool, covered barbecue, outdoor seating. The property is idyllic. We spent lots of time relaxing by the pond and woodland. There is a great bakery, farm shop and Sunday market in Cazals, all within a short walk, and the food and wine of the region are fantastic. Serge was a perfect host. He and his family were warm and accommodating but also respected our privacy. We would come back here in a heartbeat.

Adrianna, London

Would recommend Serge’s place 100%. Amazing, beautiful grounds and lake with a gorgeous pool and outside terrace area to BBQ. The house itself is perfect, clean with everything you need for a wonderful stay. Serge was the perfect Host and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. We will definitely book again.

Kelly, Dubai

1000% would recommend this place! We had an incredible stay, Serge and Sam were so friendly and helpful. They gave us lots of great recommendations and were always on hand to answer any questions. We brought our dog with us and he enjoyed the gardens and lake so much. The outdoor space is completely private and it feels like a luxury stay. We will definitely be coming back and spreading the word about this amazing place.

Sophia, Bristol

We loved our stay here, the location is great and the house very well kept and tastefully decorated with everything you need available to you. The outdoor space with pool and barbecue area is exquisite and we really enjoyed spending some of our days by the pool. My partner was working for a few days during our stay and its worth mentioning that the wifi stood up really well. Serge and Sam are really warm and welcoming and very helpful with recommendations or answering any questions that you have - I can't recommend this place enough!

James, London

A lovely Gîte, marvellous pool and grounds in a great location. We stayed two weeks, loved exploring the surrounding small villages as well as the larger towns. Many cycle and walking routes. Serge and Samantha are perfect hosts, have the balance between, respecting privacy and being available for easy chats and tips about restaurants and the area. Anne. September 2021

Location

The neighbourhood

Cazals is a short walk for a restaurant, cafés, lovely shops and a big square lined by traditional houses. On Sundays the market is bustling with local fruit and vegetables, meats and cheeses - it's great for people-watching as well as choosing your supper. There are many medieval towns, castles, more markets, rivers, gorgeous walking trails and vineyards nearby.

Local points of interest from Serge & Sam Rolland

  • Wander in to the village in the morning for your fresh baguette, and croissants from our award winning bakery, or drink a coffee with locals in the sunshine.
  • Located on the edge of the Dordogne we are a short drive away from the fabulous cliff edge castles of the Dordogne, the medieval town of Sarlat.
  • Only a short drive to the breathtaking village of Rocamadour, the natural wonder of the Gouffre de Padirac and the ancient history of the Caves at Pech Merle.
  • If you like food, then this is the area for you. Several Michelin starred restaurants, a number of Michelin recommended restaurants and plenty of fabulous local restaurants all within a short drive.
  • The wines from the Cahors wine region are famed around the world. Visit the vineyards themselves for a round of wine tasting then pop a box or two, into the back of your car to enjoy at the property or back at home.
  • The medieval times have left their mark on the area whether it's in the ancient cobbled streets of hilltop villages, the cliff top castles built by both the English and the French or the gabarres on the river that transported wine across the region.
