Set above the limestone cliffs of the Dordogne valley, Mireille’s tasteful gîtes reflect her passion for art, gardening and calm. Three miles from the lively medieval market town of Martel, between Rocamadour and Sarlat, they look out over a lovely garden and a pool bordered and scented by lavender and roses. The gîtes blend beautifully into this tranquil landscape. All have original art, decorative paints, modern bathrooms with Italian showers and robes… and no pets or children to mar the peace. The traditional 18th-century stone cottage cloaked in wisteria has a large sitting room, two bedrooms under the eaves, a chic shower room and a shady dining terrace with views across the valley. The two comfortable cabins, in the lee of a little oak wood, are perfect for couples: open-plan living areas, smart kitchenettes, covered terraces. It’s an ideal base for visits to this valley’s celebrated caves and châteaux, country walks and horse riding – or for just lazing and re-charging your batteries. And should the restorative beautiful surroundings not be enough, you can always practise French with Mireille, a charming host.
