The
Experience

You’ll wake to the cries of gulls and the quiet rumble of harbour traffic. Take a peek over the rooftops of Honfleur from your neat little dormer window and consider breakfast – perhaps flaky warm-from-the-oven pains au chocolat from L’Atelier, or some fresh local ingredients from the Saturday farmers market to cook for yourselves.Les Maisons du Puits sit close to the old marina, where you can walk 50 yards in any direction and come across a bistro with a zinc-topped bar, a gallery displaying coastal abstracts or a boutique stocked with striped deckchairs. All through the year there’s something to get involved in: a music concert, a fun fair, fishing festivals and produce markets – ideal for a date night with a difference or fun with friends.

Location

The neighbourhood

Honfleur may share the Seine with Paris, but its quaintly ramshackle wood-clad houses and cobbled streets are a marked departure from the city of light. In this corner of Normandy the tall and skinny buildings are squeezed, one room per storey, into terraced rows. Stroll to the Vieux Bassin – the old port – where fishing boats are anchored to the harbour walls and local artists regularly set up easels to capture the view. Restaurants, galleries and shops are plentiful.

Introducing

Virginie Bozonnet

Virginie and Lydia fell in love with Honfleur while working as lawyers in Paris, visiting almost every weekend before finally making the move west in 2012. As former tourists, now residents, they can make excellent suggestions from their list of ‘good addresses’ around the city, such as where to find the most tempting patisserie (we’re reliably informed at La Petite Chine) and the comfiest espadrilles for pootling around the harbour.
