Stupendous views are just the start, deep in the rolling countryside of Normandy’s lush, green bocage. Madeleine has created a special space with cottage style and charming furnishings, a lovely garden overlooking the surrounding pasture. The low-lying cottage is built in the classic half-timbered style, inside just as inviting as out with a fireplace and logs, TVs for rainy days and big squashy sofas. It’s a great all-rounder: country lovers, artists, writers and families will all love the setting.
Bedrooms are traditional – good bed linen and comforting duvets – while outside roses and irises crowd the garden. Tucked away is a gated swimming pool and a little bricked terrace for apéro hour. Breakfast on pastries, sourdough bread, fresh, local orange juice, homemade jam and Normandy butter.
You’re near the Route de Cidre (40km of roads you can bike or drive), the Jardin de Cambremer with its stunning blooms, and the Château de Crevecoeur where there are historic re-enactments.
