The sedately old-French bedrooms with good antiques and satin touches in the 16th-century house (in Madame’s family for 100 years) are large, light and lovely. All sit in peace by pastoral meadows, a birdy orchard and spreading lake. Béatrice is full of spontaneous smiles, puts flowers everywhere, organises big parties on a theme (not when B&B guests are here), serves good breakfasts and brunches at one table and keeps four gentle donkeys. The orchards produce cider and trees are being carefully and meticulously planted to Napoleonic plans discovered in the archives. A super place to stay, filled with interesting history.
