The Experience

Once a stopover for travellers passing on this peaceful road, the 19th-century staging post became a petrol station some years ago; now it’s been rescued by the Sicres. Since leaving Paris, this energetic couple have added modern touches to authentic features and created a beautiful, bright hotel. Sunshine pours in through windows overlooking the pretty village’s rosy-coloured roofs, and handcrafted furnishings pop up everywhere. Bedrooms are bold and individual, all with elaborately carved key fobs and something to make you go “ooh!” In one, an oak ladder leads to a high mezzanine – great fun for kids. The exposed timbers upstairs are magnificent and some remnants from the coach house’s old life have been given a new lease of life: an ancient hayrack and shutters have become quirky headboards. Bathrooms are equally distinctive, with yellow tiles. Fresh local produce is served in the restaurant or on the garden terrace; look out for snails from the local ‘escargotière’. Venture into the Perche for plenty of surprises: forested walking tracks, fairy-tale manoirs and the famous Percheron horses.

Beautiful ancient village. Lovely garden and pool. Deeply rural. Quite outstanding meal outside under shades. Sauces and dressings delicious.

A fantastic little find! We stopped here for one night on route to the South of France and had a fabulous meal and gorgeous room, would definitely go back!

GORGEOUS! We stopped off on our way back home after holidaying in south of France. Extremely friendly and welcoming. Very high standard of accommodation and an excellent meal in the restaurant. More than just a lovely stop-over, this fabulous hotel is defintely worth visiting in its own right. Can'r recommend highly enough.

A welcoming, relaxed, cosy hotel with friendly helpful staff. The gardens were very relaxing and gave you a feeling of privacy, the pool area was far nicer than we had expected from the photos. It was a great place to stop off at on our way back to England.
