The Experience

A lovely 18th-century farmhouse, whitewashed and Normandy-beamed, sits in a very pretty garden reached via a door in the wall. Indoors, you find a remarkably fresh, open-plan and modernised interior, with a comfortable sitting room to share.Garden lovers will enjoy visiting Monet’s gardens at Giverny, about 45 minutes’ drive away, or perhaps picturesque Gerberoy; you can walk or cycle around here too. Trains to Paris leave from a nearby station.Return for dinner with your hosts: three courses of classic French cuisine served beside the old farm fireplace. Philippe, the chef, receives much praise. Chantal, a retired teacher, keeps you company.

Reviews

Stayed a few nights whilst cycling in the area. We were in the hayloft with double and single bed, Very comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities and TV. There is ample space thro' the main gate for car parking. Owners Phillippe and Chantal are excellent hosts who speak English. Phillippe is the Chef and a very good one too. Luckily we were able to have Dinner in the Garden which was a bonus. Excellent Chambre d'hote.

On my Coventry-Paris bike ride I found myself in the bottom left hand corner of Picardy at 7 in the evening. I saw the signpost on the D3 pointing towards Tourly & Hotel & so, by chance I found Fay-les-Etangs & Hotel Le Clos. Despite arriving unannounced I was welcomed like an old friend by Philippe & Chantal & indeed by their dog 'Bondy'. They managed to find me a perfect little room even though the place was nearly filled with a team of charity cyclists who had also crossed La Manche.. The 300 year old beautiful building is full of wooden beams & delectable food. I highly recommend !

We had a lovely stay at Le Clos. It is in a peaceful, rural location. Very good hosts who love their cooking. It is definitely worth staying for dinner as it is extremely good value. English spoken.

Location

The neighbourhood

You’re in the heart of a rural village, Fay-les-Etangs, which has no shops or restaurants; head to the nearest town, Chaumont-en-Vexin, less than three miles away – there's an early 16th-century church and castle here too. As well as Giverny, there are beautiful villages nearby such as Fleury, La Roche-Guyon, and Gerberoy.

Local points of interest from Philippe & Chantal Vermeire

  • this farm is 300 years old. Every room proposes private place in the garden and it is an available private parking . Bikes are securely stored under a portico
  • Giverny's garden is pretty near. We use to recommend a special way to reach it, visiting classified villages, gardens and normandy cities on the way
  • If you definitely don't want to drive in Paris, you can park your car at a small railway station, or let it home, we can drive you and waiting for you on the way back.
  • Two golf curses are available nearby, one in Chaumont en Vexin, the other one in Ivry le Temple.
