The
Experience

A rural idyll, wrapped in birdsong. The old farmhouse, lovingly restored and decorated, is simple and pristine; its carpeted rooms, under eaves and polished to perfection, overlook a pretty garden where you may picnic. Your hosts are an interesting couple of anglophiles. Thoughtful, stylish Madame serves generous breakfasts of homemade jams, organic breads, cheeses and cereals under the fig tree in summer. Monsieur teaches engineering in beautiful La Rochelle; follow his suggestions and discover its lesser-known treasures. Luscious lawns are bordered by well-stocked beds. Great value.

Reviews

We had booked to stay here for three days and as soon as we arrived wished that we had booked to stay longer. Everything about this B&B is done with the utmost care. Rooms are immaculate and very well equipped. Marie-Christine took tea with us when we first arrived and took the time to tell us about the best things to see in the area, and where to eat. She even booked us a table at a great restaurant in La Rochelle. Breakfasts were delicious and beautifully presented. Everything is organic and much of it home made. Her French toast, perfumed with the local liqueur, was wonderful.

Impeccable house and gardens. Comfortable room beautifully decorated. Wonderful breakfasts with a wide variety of home produced jams and organic breads. Excellent local information provided by friendly hosts. Highly recommended.

Liz

Thank you for a lovely stay ! Very beautiful house, and pretty garden. Good breakfast and attentive host and hostess.

Jane, Coventry

We have had an extremely comfortable stay. The house and grounds are even better than they looked in the book, and it has always been a pleasure to return after a day of sightseeing, to the peace and tranquillity. The kitchen and facilities were very welcome. Marie-Christine and Jean-François have been the perfect hosts ; helpful, charming and friendly. We invited them to speak in French to us which they did with great care and great sympathy for our efforts in return.

Charles

Excellent accomodation, high standards, attention to details. Pretty too. And a warm welcome from Marie-Christine & Jean-François. Five star !!

Jan, Bristol

Very good indeed. Kind, helpful, toys for the children. 5 in the family room (1 in a cot). Very comfortable. Generous breakfast. Lots of suggestions for the area. Thank you.

Katie

Such a warm welcome from our friendly hosts to their immaculate home. The garden is so peaceful and beautiful away from the crowds of La Rochelle. Nothing was too much trouble which makes all difference. Thank you.

Celia

A very pleasant stay at short notice ! from the 2002 guidebook. We loved the garden, the company, the breakfast and the visit to La Rochelle. Merci beaucoup !

William

Nice place, thank you very much. The maps and recommendations were great !

Marcus

We have stayed in various Chambres d'Hôtes through Alastair Sawday's Guide and this is the best place to date. Attention to details is obvious, and Breakfast excellent quality and choice. Genial hosts !

Liz

We were made to feel very welcome at this charming accomodation, and although the weather was not as warm as we anticipated, there was plenty to see and do in the area. Breakfasts here are a real taste of the area and there is a good Auberge in the outskirts of village for evening meals, but not every night (closed on sunday and tuesday) !

Margaret

Everything first class. Very friendly host / hostess. Excellent breakfast. Lovely garden. Lots of interesting birds to see ! Highy recommended.

Mickaël

Very good. Very hospitable hosts. Kitchenette outside for guests to cook and wash up for picnics, etc...

Wendy

Beautiful house with very welcoming and helpful hosts. Marie prepared lovely breakfasts and gave us a lot of useful tips on where to visit in the area. They went out of their way to be kind and helpful.

Pauline

Delicious homemade jams and cake for breakfast. Very comfortable room

Martin

Our 6 day stay at "A l'Ombre du Figuier" was exceptionally enjoyable and extremely confortable. Marie-Christine & Jean-François PROU were excellent hosts - and extremely helpful. The beautifully developed farm house + garden were delightful and very well maintained. We have no hesitation in highly recommending this B&B.

Angela

Very calm and beautiful setting. Gentle, welcoming hosts, yet only 20 km from La Rochelle

Mickael

Great room and bathroom, great hosts, great food and a wonderful 3-night stay. Close to La Rochelle to explore the port and its history, and well situated to explore the wetlands and canals nearby. The approach to Longèves is through fields of hay, sunflowers and maize. A glorious summer experience. The room and house is impeccably furnished, maintained and clean. A very nice touch was a bottle of chilled water provided every evening.

Mark

This is a quiet, rural, charming farmhouse, a short drive from La Rochelle. The hosts are very friendly and welcoming, helping to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable and giving you space to relax. The area has many activities to choose from and despite it's rural feel, this B&B is close to a main road, with easy access to the surrounding area. We enjoyed a thoroughly relaxing few days here and I would certainly recommend it to others!
