The Experience

Perfect for families: an old cottage which is one of two properties set in two and a half acres of gated grounds of a former Cognac Domaine, surrounding the owners’ Charentais manor house. The good-sized heated pool, set in the orchard overlooking the vineyards, is just for you, along with your own terrace and courtyard garden with barbecue. Down a narrow driveway lined with shrubs and flowers is Manor Cottage: find a buttery-yellow sitting room with cosy armchairs and sofas, bedrooms that are a mix of old English checks and French toile de Jouy, two pristine shower rooms and a family bathroom downstairs. There’s a generous welcome pack: a bottle of Bordeaux, jams from the orchard, cakes, fresh fruit, coffee. Cooks will be content in the kitchen with its modern layout and white crockery, and plenty of space in the living room means you can eat at a table here or outside in good weather. Your kind host is there if you need her and can give advice on vineyards to visit. Deeply relaxing.

Reviews

John, Sudbury, Suffolk

Diane and I stayed in Manor Cottage for a week in June/July. We couldn't recommend it too highly. The cottage is lovely, spacious and well equipped. The outside spaces are a delight, we ate breakfast at the front, outside the kitchen, and lunch and dinner in the courtyard. The wider garden and orchard are also lovely areas to explore, watch the cats, birds and butterflies and to relax in. There is a background of birdsong. The pool area is as good as any we have enjoyed in France. The cottages are on the edge of small village, surrounded by vineyards. Lyn and Graham are great hosts. They were

Everything was perfect including Lynn and Graham we really had the most wonderful stay there. The rooms were beautifully decorated, we made the most of the beautiful weather and the private courtyard for our meals and of course the pool! Wonderful pool, perfect temperature nicely kept gardens. The highlight for me was when Graham took as for a little spin in one of his beautifully kept Morgans! We have already booked again to go back next year!

We had a wonderful 2 week stay in La Rose des Vents Manor Cottage. Lyn and Graham were super hosts and the cottage contained everything that we needed for a home away from home. Lyn and Graham gave us great tips on things to see and do in the area. We loved the pool and had a swim there everyday with our young children. We have left La Rose des Vents with great memories of a super holiday! Thank you Lyn & Graham.

Manor Cottage is as described on the website - a great place to relax by the pool or as a base for touring the Charente region. It's a very well equipped Gite and our hosts couldn't have looked after us better. Their site has the added advantage of secure covered parking for several classic/expensive cars if that is how you travel! Or there's always the option of a ride in Lyn & Graham's Morgan!

Paul, Southampton

Penny and I loved our 7 nights here. Lyn and Graham had thought of everything to make our stay enjoyable; the breakfast they brought to the cottage at a time to suit us included fresh local croissants and breads and fruit and home-made jams. All the rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished and we had plenty of towels -including beach towels to use at the pool -which we enjoyed! The pool and garden were not overlooked and the ambience of the whole place is peaceful with sounds of birds and sheep. In the evening we could watch the sun go down over the vineyards from the rear lawn.
