The Experience
Perfect for families: an old cottage which is one of two properties set in two and a half acres of gated grounds of a former Cognac Domaine, surrounding the owners’ Charentais manor house. The good-sized heated pool, set in the orchard overlooking the vineyards, is just for you, along with your own terrace and courtyard garden with barbecue. Down a narrow driveway lined with shrubs and flowers is Manor Cottage: find a buttery-yellow sitting room with cosy armchairs and sofas, bedrooms that are a mix of old English checks and French toile de Jouy, two pristine shower rooms and a family bathroom downstairs. There’s a generous welcome pack: a bottle of Bordeaux, jams from the orchard, cakes, fresh fruit, coffee. Cooks will be content in the kitchen with its modern layout and white crockery, and plenty of space in the living room means you can eat at a table here or outside in good weather. Your kind host is there if you need her and can give advice on vineyards to visit. Deeply relaxing.

This was honestly the best cottage we have ever rented in many years holidaying in France. Perfect cottage which remained cool even in 40’ temperatures, a lovely airy sitting room, good bedrooms and two courtyards for relaxed meals. The icing on the cake was the terrific pool in the orchard, plenty long enough to get some exercise as well as to cool down. Added to which the owners were excellent hosts - on hand for advice or to help with any issues and yet in no way intrusive. All in all a perfect stay!

Manor Cottage is spacious, comfortable and very well equipped. The kitchen has everything you would need, the bed linen and towels were excellent quality and the whole property was spotless. A great base from which to explore the area but there is also a lovely pool for lazy hot days. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed in Manor Cottage for a week in August. I couldn't recommend it highly enough. The cottage is lovely, spacious and well equipped. It's in a beautiful area surrounded by vineyards. Lyn and Graham were great hosts. They were always available for a quick chat and ready to offer information and advice on places to visit, restaurants, shops etc. Graham took us out for a spin in one of his Morgans. I think he was just delighted to have someone to show them off too. They gave us a nice bottle of wine with the welcome pack but the highlight was the apricot jam. Delicious.

We had a great time staying at the Manor Cottage. The cottage, originally the estate manager's accommodation, was spacious and was well equipped and was a great base from which to visit Cognac and the river Charente. We have three kids (twins aged nine and a six year old) and they all enjoyed canoeing and kayaking on the Charente and spending time at Les Bains des Dames. We also visited La Rochelle and the beach at Saint Georges de Didonne (although there was a lot of traffic on the way to both so leave early). Lyn and Graham were perfect hosts, taking us all for a ride in their Morgan, thanks

We stayed at Manor Cottage for 10 days at the end of September. The weather was slightly unkind to us but Manor Cottage and the owners, Lyn and Graham Peek, more than compensated for it! Thee are two cottages but each is entirely separate from the other and whilst we didn’t use the swimming pool, it is certainly a plus for the cottages. Manor Cottage is beautifully furnished and lacks for nothing. Lyn and Graham are perfect hosts,
