A delightfully hospitable couple who love having people to stay. Their beautiful, mainly 17th-century, château has a gently fading grandeur and is surrounded by magnificent parkland. Perfect for families, it’s a children’s paradise with a large swimming pool, plenty of safe space in which to roam and explore and a fascinating pigeonniere. From the dramatic hall the superbly bannistered staircase sweeps you up to the salon gallery that runs majestically through the house and provides a huge space in which to relax – sit, read, dream of benevolent ghosts… The two double bedrooms burst with personality and are roomy and comfortable; children’s rooms interconnect. Madame’s hand-painted tiles adorn a shower, her laughter accompanies your breakfast (organic garden fruits and four sorts of jam); Monsieur tends his trees, aided by Hermes the dog – he’s a fount of local wisdom and is happy to chat about the history of the château too. A warm, wonderful, authentic place, and Michelin stars five miles away.
