The
Experience

Wake to coffee, cakes and compotes, served on a terrace with an incomparable view. This beautiful ‘maison bourgeoise’ stands alone, just below the road from Nice to Grasse, protected from others by a profusion of trees.

Sit by lavender as a fountain trickles; play boules until the sun goes down. In winter, relax with other guests by the fire. Isabelle’s dinners are served by François and it’s a relaxed affair. Four of the bedrooms lie in the 16th-century half, and the rest in the Belle Epoque ‘new’. Bathrooms are stocked with soaps from the houses of Grasse.

Catch the bus and you’re in town in 15 minutes, exploring the fragrance boutiques. Travel east and you’re in Nice. Closer to home, treat yourself to lunch and a Michelin star: ‘Au Fil du Temps’ is a minute up the road.

Reviews

I truly loved the luminous and serene atmosphere in this place, as well as the fact that, though close to the bustle of the Côte d'Azur, it was a haven of tranquillity. Delightful owners, who care for and interact with their guests. The magical surroundings and frankly, the sheer beauty of the place. As a writer, this is a place I could stay for inspiration.

Location

The neighbourhood

Up in the hills above Cannes, Grasse is famous for its perfume industry. The hotel is 4km from Grasse but surrounded by lush vegetation so you can’t see any other buildings. Many guests come to explore the hills and the back-country, and a regular bus stops outside the hotel. Below the house is a big, magical, south-facing garden, with tall trees giving shade.

Local points of interest from Isabelle d'Auzers & François Houdenot

Introducing

Isabelle d'Auzers & François Houdenot

Isabelle and François are natural-born hosts: interesting, engaging and friendly. After leaving work in IT finance, they joined friends in running a Parisian hotel. Now they have realised a long-held dream: to run a hotel of their own. They bought La Bellaudière in 2016, have cultivated the garden, and offer delicious Provencal food given a bit of notice.
