The
Experience

Cradled in summer by cicada chant and the gentle wind, cocooned in winter in a romantic log-warmed bedroom, you will be bewitched by the subtle mix of clean-cut modernity and fine oriental detail that your much-travelled polyglot hosts have achieved in this craggy old house with a beautiful garden. Karin from Sweden and French/Dutch Sydney love pampering people. The rough hills outside highlight the delicacy inside, the natural walled pool, the stunning bathrooms (one with a tub for two), the civilised conversation if you have dinner. You can drive up the road and catch the tram straight into Nice. Worth every centime.

Reviews

I just wish we could have stayed longer at La Parare. Karin and Sydney were superb hosts and had plenty of recommendations for activities to do in the area. They were offering dinner that night, so after an aperitif in their peaceful garden under the olive tree, we were served a delicious meal. In the morning before breakfast we swam in their picturesque pool, with views of the hills around...bliss! The bedroom was extremely comfortable and the bathroom luxurious. There are plenty of places in the garden where you can relax too to the sound of running water. Hoping to be back one day (soon)!

Wonderful, restorative, happy stay. Karin and Sydney are the best of hosts and made everyone feel special and welcome. Rooms are beautiful and individual and the breakfasts absolutely delicious - everything you could wish for including homemade bread, pancakes, freshly prepared fruit and perfect boiled eggs - every time! Lots of interesting places to see and great advice with maps from Karin and Sydney. Couldn't recommend it more highly.

Wendy

A lovely break, 30 min from Nice, spectacular views, a wonderful welcome, very tasteful rooms, full of character and an Elysian garden of olives, figs and roses in which to sun yourself and picnic.

Local points of interest from Karin & Sydney van Volen

  • La Parare is an old stone house, one of the few real "nicoise" remaining. All in stone with vaulted rooms and fire places in the all the rooms. A pigeon tower and a bread oven - special features typical for the region. Lots of charm and character.
  • Discover the rural area around Nice – beautiful medieval villages, stunning scenery and really off the beaten track.
  • Take the scenic route to Monaco, for the F1 Grand Prix, the Classic Grand Prix, a tour at the oceanographic museum, some shopping or just a stroll checking out the luxury cars around the casino.
  • You wish there was a non-crowded beach, some rocks where you can lay to enjoy the sun? Even during the summer season? We know the address!
  • For a perfect day: stroll around St Jean Cap Ferrat, go for a swim in Cap d’Ail and finish off with a dinner at La Pinede. The Riviera at its best!
  • • Nice is getting prettier and prettier – museums, a new beautiful park, great shopping and some really good restaurants.
