The Experience

You’re down a quiet lane in the ceramic and glass village of Biot. Inside is full of creative flair, outside is traditional with a sparkling pool. You can sit in one of three salons, cook in a smart oak kitchen or soak in an elegant marble tub.

Gather breakfast supplies from the market and graze on the terrace – glimpse Antibes and the sea, the red hat of the Garoupe lighthouse. Hidden between the citrus, oleander and roses are sculptures and art installations, the silence broken by birdsong and cicadas.

The beach is a short drive, the village closer. Stay in with a bottle from the owners’ cellar or head out for fine Provencal pistou and brandades at Les Arcades. Pack picnics for walks in the Brague Valley, swim, relax.

Reviews

Thank you for a wonderful stay at La Vielle Poterie. The house & gardens provide a secret haven within a stone's throw of the Village of Biot. Jaleh & Lawrence have created a series of beautifully designed, glamorous & intimate spaces for all kinds of recreation throughout the day, from the pool & loggia in the daytime to the series of sensitively styled interior rooms that allow for group gathering & individual relaxation. We are a creative family & it inspired some wonderful drawings & paintings - even from our sullen teens. It's the perfect blend of historic charm & modern convenience.

We had the most blissful stay at La Vieille Poterie Biot. The property has been beautifully restored throughout and is stunning and unique. The ancient village of Biot is on the doorstep but the house is quiet and secluded. We found it so convenient for visits to the beach, countryside and Nice airport. Our hosts Jaleh & Lawrence couldn’t have been more welcoming. We look forward to visiting again.

A feeling that you are staying somewhere unique, part of the local history - a 17th-century pottery. Close to the Riviera yet it feels filled with creative energy, great for writers or artists. The biggest surprise is the scale of the place, huge vaulted stone ceilings combined with tasteful decor and luxurious bathrooms, kitchen and a big pool just a few steps from an unspoilt Provencal village.

Location

The neighbourhood

Tucked down an impasse near the village school, the house is just 50 metres from the old village of Biot behind high walls and lush greenery; it feels secluded and the views are of neighbouring villas leading downhill and the swimming pool – artist Fernand Leger once lived next door. Biot is in the heart of the Riviera, set back from the sea, and is a sleepy kind of place with traditional bars, cafes and craft shops, and there’s a museum heralding its history as a centre for ceramics and glassware. The nearest restaurant is just 100 metres’ walk from the house.

The Falks have spent the past 25 years hosting guests in the Côte d’Azur, before making Biot their base. They live here in the off-season, but otherwise share their home with guests. Their belongings display a life of great interest: he ran a chain of hair salons in London, while she worked as a wardrobe mistress in the movie industry.
