The Experience

This one-storey house is in a residential area of town, so you have neighbours, but it feels nicely private with high hedges and tall gates.Lucy and Sam live in a house on the other side of town and will give you a warm welcome and leave you with fruit and wine. Rustle up dinners in the kitchen with produce from the Wednesday market, one of Provence’s best, or fire up the barbecue on the sunny patio. Relax in a hammock under the mulberry tree, swim in the salt pool, admire the manicured gardens with ancient olive tree, herbs and flowers. In the centre of popular St Rémy you’ll find cafes, restaurants, boutiques and art galleries; if you fancy somewhere closer for dinner Caprice de Mathias is good and only a five-minute walk. Hire bicycles, choose one of the walks into the mountains, explore notable Roman sites.

Reviews

The house, in all its original glory has everything needed to be able to have a relaxing break with friends.

Rémi, Lyon

We have stayed at Baltus on a number of occasions and always look forward to returning to St Remy. The house which is situated in a quite part of town has a large secluded garden with swimming pool and gated access with ample parking. The house is well equipped with everything required. Lucy and Sam are always very welcoming and are nearby if required. It is only a 10 minute walk from the centre of St Remy which has a large weekly market and a good choice of restaurants.

A comfortable but unpretentious house with large and peaceful garden and pool in residential area of St Remy. Great to be able to stroll into town in 10 minutes. Also equally easy to stroll into beautiful countryside. The perfect central Provencal location from which to explore St Remy, the beautiful les Alpilles mountains, the Camargue and historic Arles, Avignon, Nimes and coastal Marseilles. Off street, private parking is a boom in this busy town.

We spent two weeks in a relaxed atmosphere. After some days we began to love the house and especially the garden with the pool. The day started with a jump in the water ended on the lovely terrace in the evening. We slept very well in the master bedroom - sometimes two hours more than at home! Most of the days during our stay we were hiking nearby in the Alpilles. In the early afternoon we came back and appreciated the garden and of course the pool. We can recommend this place to everybody who will have perfect holidays in St Rémy

The house was lovely. Beautiful gardens and pool. Well maintained. Loved that it was in walking distance to the town of St Remy. Lucy and Sam were very helpful - they bought us a new grill since the old one didn't work and they helped us figure out the TV. The house was perfect for two couples but it could easily fit 6. Highly recommend. Thanks!!

My 2 friends and I spent 6 nights here. The house would comfortably host a larger group. Lucy was very helpful with recommendations for restaurants and sites. The house is VERY lovely and comfortable. It was welcoming - many books and movies. We slept so well! The weather was cool in April, so I want to return and spend time in both the beautiful front and back yards. Lovely pool. The location feels private. We felt safe behind the gate. We had plenty of room to park. We walked back from dinner in the centre of town every night in 10 minutes. A quiet short walk to Van Gogh's hospital too.

We found the property charming, very comfortable and very clean. The house blended the feel of Provence with all of the mod cons. The garden and swimming pool were lovely and we enjoyed lots of al fresco living. Lucy and Sam were excellent, very helpful and friendly hosts. St Remy centre is fantastic, (as is Glanum which is close by) and is within easy walking distance - and yet the house is private. We would certainly recommend Baltus to friends and family and hope to visit again sometime in the future.

Fantastic rental in a perfect location. An updated but authentic Provencal charmer with loads of character and a perfect location. We really couldn't have asked for anything more. My wife and I had our own private ensuite master bedroom with a quaint and cozy covered patio right outside the sliding glass doors. Our bedroom had en electronic black out curtain on the sliding doors that was great if you like it dark in your bedroom like we do. We have rented homes all over Europe and the Caribbean and we couldn't recommend this place enough. We shall return.

We rented this property for the 2nd week of July 09. This is perfectly located, well maintained and has all necessary facilities. The property has a number of different outside settings for different times of the day (eg shade by the pool, quiet breakfast area and alfresco dining). St Remy de Provence has a number of excellent Restaurants and food outlets and Wednesday markets and the Property is within 10min easy walk of the town centre.

Location

The neighbourhood

There’s plenty to see in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, including Roman history – the Roman site of Glanum is 15 minutes’ walk away. You can also walk a historical trail dedicated to Van Gogh, one of the town’s most famous inhabitants. The popular fortified hilltop village of Les Baux-de-Provence is a 15-minute drive, and near to it is Les Carrières de Lumières, a former underground stone quarry which has multi-media art shows set to light projections and music. Avignon is a half-hour drive, and the Camargue is an hour away, as is the Mediterranean coast.

Local points of interest from Lucy Bakr

  • The Alpilles ( small Alps) offer wonderful walks, views & cycling routes, the perfect way to start your day up among the native green oaks , Atlas cedars and wild rosemary & thyme of provence. Just step out of the house and in 10 minutes you are there.
  • Romanin nearby offers the chance to go gliding- a thrill to be up in the quiet skies riding the thermals and also opportunities to go up in a small plane for about 6 people.
  • Golfing is very popular with many good courses in the area - the Domaine de Manville at Les Baux & Golf de Servannes near Mouries or Pont Royal designed by Severiano Ballesteros towards Aix with good venues for lunches & dinner.
  • The area has a big Roman history - visit the arenas of Arles & Nîmes, the amphitheaters , the museums with Roman vestiges and then follow the paths of the painters like Van Gogh, visit the Van Gogh Foundation & the old mental home where he was incarcerated.
  • Arles has a new multi cultural building designed by Frank Gehry being erected and the town hosts an important photographic exhibition every year in the summer, many all year activities too with music venues, theatre & dance at the Luma centre.
  • Only 50 minutes drive to the mediterranean sea and to visit the wildlife of the Camargue with its white horses, flamingoes and many other birds associated with the wetlands. Marseille is the same distance with its vieux port made city of Culture in 2013.
