The
Experience

Richard and Carrie have sensitively renovated a 17th century bergerie at the end of a quiet lane leading to the thyme-scented foothills of the Alpilles. The beautiful vaulted stone ceiling in the living room, the exposed beams and ancient terracotta floor tiles in the kitchen stand out against the muted colours of the original stonework. Bedrooms are generous, bathrooms sparkling; there’s plenty of space, a secluded pool sheltered from the Mistral in the little garden – and the whole of Provence to explore on foot, bike or car: share Richard and Carrie’s dream in this renovated gem of real Provençal heritage.

Reviews

A delightfully quiet setting for a beautifully restored gite. Extremely well equipped, very tastefully decorated with wonderful attention to detail. Carrie and Richard are excellent hosts - very friendly and informative about the local area. Would definitely recommend and hope to return.

Location

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Richard & Carrie Ahern

  • Maussane - 2km away has a lively square with a host of cafés and restaurants to while away the time beside a charming fountain. Weekly market on a Thursday.
  • Surrounded by olive groves, Mouries, 5km away is the centre of the French olive oil industry - the largest in France. Visit the local moulins where you can taste the different Provençal olive oils.
  • Les Baux is nearby, classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France. The Citadel, steeped in history, is perched on a rocky outcrop above the village and demands spectacular views south to the Camargue and east to Montagne Ste Victoire.
  • Small vineyards surround the Alpilles and provide the opportunity to taste the local wines. An hour's drive takes you to the vineyards of Côtes du Rhône and Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
  • For the golfing enthusiast, Servanes and the fabulous new course at Manville are both within a 10 minute drive. Horse riding is available closeby to explore the foothills of the Alpilles.
  • St Rémy de Provence is a 12 minutes' drive across the Alpilles, site of the Greek/Roman city of Glanum. Marseille and the Camargue lie to the south, Arles and Nimes to the west, Avignon to the north and Aix-en-Provence to the east. All within easy reach.
