The Experience

Enjoy lunch on the dreamy terrace at the back – or in the dappled shade of the planes. This Provencale farmhouse sits in eight acres of orchards, olive groves and gardens. Spend all day by the pool, but make time for the grand old towns of Arles, Avignon, Aix, Nimes and Orange.

Great for celebratory parties, the house sleeps a total of 18. The kitchen is fabulous, the living rooms bright and airy, and the bedrooms (all but two) are on the two upper floors, reached by two separate staircases. The style is ‘country’ throughout, harmonious and traditional.

Pop into Saint Andiol for your croissants and baguettes. It’s a two-minute drive or seven by bike. Later, dine in lovely, leafy St Rémy. In spite of its chic restaurants and boho boutiques, this once sleepy town is a world away from the Côte d’Azur.

Lossiamande is a picture perfect Provencal farmhouse; pale blue shutters opening onto old stone walls, original beam and plaster ceilings, tiled floors, vast stone fireplaces, French doors flooding south facing rooms with sunlight. Original features blend with modern ones. All this tucked away in a huge 8 acre garden full of flowering shrubs, extensive lawns, fruit orchards, and olive groves.

The neighbourhood

Down a private drive off the road to Saint Rémy and shrouded by large trees, the house hides away in a green oasis. Wander the gardens, play boules, and cool off by the pool. Just outside Saint Rémy (10km) is the important Roman site of Glanum; also, the asylum to which Van Gogh committed himself in 1889, an 11th-century monastery with beautiful cloisters. Stock up in little Saint Andiol (1.7km), and don't miss St Rémy's Wednesday market; it's one of the best in Provence.

Ludovic and Olivia - he French, she American - are London-based but love Provence and always wanted to buy here. They have great taste and are fastidious about keeping the character and original features of their houses. They, or the caretakers will welcome you.
