Vineyards and glorious views over the Var surround you at this peaceful 17th-century bastide. Linn and her friendly staff want you to enjoy the slow pace here. Bedrooms (some upstairs, some down) each bear a painter’s name and have antique pieces, flowers and garden views; shower rooms have organic cotton towels and sprigs of lavender; gîte guests have an apartment and studio in the grounds. Eat in the huge living and dining area or out on the pretty front terrace; food is organic, vegetables are mostly from the garden. Plenty to do: explore the bougainvillea-bright grounds, swim, play petanque or tennis, book massage or yoga, get stuck into a game of chess – there’s a giant set under the shade of a centuries-old oak tree. Bikes and tours can be arranged and the coast is 30 minutes away.
