A home full of family pieces and interesting finds – step into the hall and be greeted by an old Pyrenean carved wooden canoe. Built in a Japanese-influenced style in the 1980s, it has bags of quirk and clever design – mainly open plan on two floors, set around a tiny inner courtyard full of tropical plants. The airy dining room opens into the heart of the house: a huge living area with white sofas, super-stylish wood-burner and splashes of colour from the abstract art on whitewashed walls. The kitchen is equipped with all you need, and a welcome hamper of essentials is left for your first breakfast. Bedrooms (one downstairs) are simply done with perhaps an antique deck chair, a black and white theme or more original art; two open onto terraces, one has a mezzanine for children; bathrooms zing with colourful tiles. The garden wraps around the house on different levels: pool and ping-pong, sunny terraces, shady spots and a great barbecue area. The lovely hill top village of Solliès-Ville is just up the road, beaches a 20-minute drive, Aix en Provence and Saint Tropez an hour away; markets and vineyards aplenty too.
