The Experience
In a wooded valley, light filters through the Mediterranean maritime pines, cork oaks, arbutus and myrtle trees as you bump up the track – it feels a world away from the hectic and complicated. There’s space for a group of 20 across the four cottages, starting with six in Lauriers and four in Lavandes. Each has its own terrace and sun screens made of reeds; interiors are basic, clean, compact; bathrooms shared, windows mosquito-netted.
Walk out through olive groves and vines, and to Beausset for lunch. Shop at local markets, dance at village fêtes; visit perched villages and vineyards. The coast’s just a 10-minute drive, Cassis is 30.
There is WiFi but what a great place to escape tech: kids will love the freedom and tree climbing; play games and read – there are masses of paperbacks. On race days you may hear a distant Formula 1 hum from the Paul Ricard circuit, usually bird-song, cigales and frogs provide your soundtrack.

Location
The neighbourhood
Wrapped in its 2 hectares of woodland, in Bandol wine country, La Daby is 20-minutes' walk/5-minutes' drive from the shops and friendly eateries of Le Beausset village. It's 10 minutes to the medieval villages of Le Castellet and La Cadière d'Azur; 15 to lovely beaches. 4km away is Le Font des Pères restaurant and winery, for home-grown and organic food; it's 5km to Le Mas de Brulat's excellent restaurant L'Olivier. For city trips, Marseille and Aix are an hour away.
Local points of interest from the Owners
- Le Beausset, 1 km away, has an extensive market on Fridays, with a smaller farmer’s market on Sunday full of delicious produce.
- Le Beausset has its own wood fired pizza takeaway which is a great excuse for the cook’s night off, in the same building as the boulangerie and easily walkable from La Daby.
- Visit the wonderful Le Castellet village with stunning views across the countryside. Home to several wonderful restaurants.
- Paul Ricard Formula 1 track is 10 minutes drive away. It is possible to book to go around it.
- Typical french beaches are 15 minutes drive away where bikes and boats can be rented. Also kitesurfing and scuba diving available.
- Zip lining and an aqua park are also close by for the kids.

Introducing
the Owners
The Burrill's - architect Santa and producer Timothy - discovered La Daby in the 1970s and totally fell for its charms. Over the years Santa designed four cottages here: one for each child. Now with children of their own they come regularly for their holidays and are keen to share their much-loved Provençal getaway. Local, friendly Sylvie is on call if you need anything during your stay.
La Daby is a wonderful antidote for a family or group of friends looking for a totally different lifestyle for summer getaways in a self contained time capsule (no noise, no traffic, no holiday crowds). Don't look for creature comforts, the cottages are clean and basic. Children can run free, shout, climb a tree and just experience the natural countryside.
