The Experience

Relax in the wooden swing seat and gaze across the valley: the views are exquisite. As darkness falls, watch the lights of Bargemon shining on its hill.

This 250-year-old manor house, reached via a steep, well-hidden drive, is pleasing to the eye and soothing on the soul. The drawing room is vast, the kitchen is for cooks, and the bedrooms are upstairs and down. With child-proof crockery, winter log fires, a serene garden and a secure pool, the house is ideal for all ages, in all weathers.

This is hill country, where the vegetation is lush. Set between the villages of Bargemon and Seillans, each a short drive, you are spoiled. Explore tempting shops and cafés, fountains, markets, and shady squares. Later, head for the hills and the perfumes of Grasse (30km), or bask on the beaches at Fréjus (40km). Return to majestic trees, perfect lawns and supper under the stars.

Location

The neighbourhood

Charming Bargemon, with its narrow streets and 12th-century walls, is a winding 6km drive - as is medieval Seillans. Both have weekly markets. Bargemon has a sprinkling of restaurants, all good; start with Chez Pierrot and L'Arlequin on the village square. For celebrations, book a table at the enchanting Hotel Des Deux Rocs in Seillans, or at the very good, family-run Chez Hugo.

Local points of interest from Julie & Jon Hill

  • The property is situated in 2.5 acres of its own land and has direct access to some lovely hikes. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area. Lac de st Cassien is within 30 minutes, the coast and the world famous Gorge du Verdon is under an hour a way.
  • The coast and beaches are within easy reach, as are Nice, St Tropez, St Raphael, Cannes and Antibes. There are multiple different coastal areas to explore within an hour from the house. Favourite beaches are at St Aygulf & beach club is Le Mas d'Estel.
  • Bargemon & Seillans are charming, picturesque villages with original 12th Century fortifications. There are fountains, shaded squares and restaurants where you can sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere/people watching. There are small weekly markets in both
  • The Gorge du Verdon provides serious hiking and several activities to keep older children happy with white water rafting. There are lovely local vineyards and perfumes to sample in Grasse. There is a beautiful fresh water lake within 30 mins by car.

Introducing

Julie & Jon Hill

Jon, Julie and their two adult children passionately love this Provencal house, which they have known for 20 years. They bought it in 2016, and visit whenever they can, especially in winter. They live in Devon but their housekeeper lives in Bargemon so there is always someone to help and advise. Guests enter using a key safe by the drive.
