The Experience
Exit the busy A50 autoroute connecting Toulon to Marseilles and drive through well-tended vineyards towards a tiny hamlet near the medieval hilltop village of Le Castellet. The oldest house in the village – it dates from 1594 – retains a traditional warm Provençal façade but the interiors have been stylishly modernised.
A big continental breakfast can be taken in the restaurant, on the terrace or in your room and includes hams, cheese, homemade fruit compote, bread, local honey and viennoiseries. Rooms have countryside views and swish touches: a Nespresso machine, bathrobes and slippers, a minibar.
Eat at the restaurant here or walk two minutes to the local pizzeria; choose a book from the library shelves on the landing, laze by the pool or play petanque. You can walk to Le Castellet in 30 minutes or drive to the beach and local markets in 15 minutes.

Accommodation
Location
The neighbourhood
The hotel is in the centre of the tiny hamlet of Le Brûlat. Drive five minutes for wine tasting at Domaine de l’Olivette or Domaine Tour de Bon, or 10 minutes for Michelin-starred dining in hilltop villages – Hostellerie Bérard in La Cadière-d'Azur or Hotel & Spa du Castellet in Le Castellet. It’s 15 minutes’ drive to the beach at Bandol, which has a weekly market on Tuesday, and Saint Cyr sur Mer, which has a market on Sunday. It’s also only 15 minutes to Circuit Paul Ricard Grand Prix racetrack (although you won’t hear any noise). Aix-en-Provence is an hour away, Marseille is 45 minutes, Cassis is 40 minutes.
Local points of interest from Su Stephens
- The hotel is located less than a 20 minute drive from the beaches at St Cyr Sur Mer and Bandol. Not only will you love the coastline but the bars and restaurants you will find there. We can provide you with details of our favourites.
- The hilltop villages of Le Castellet and La Cadière d'Azur are within a few minutes drive and wonderful places to spend a quiet afternoon.
- You will find local Provencal markets every day within the area. Wednesday mornings you will find a wonderful market at Sanary Sur Mer which includes food as well as you usually Provencal items. Afterwards enjoy a walk in this charming village.
- For the chilldren there are lots of wonderful things to do including Le Royaume des Arbres (where they can swing in the trees), Go Karting at Circuit Paul Ricard, horse riding, OK Corral (fun park) and of course the beaches.
- We can provide you with lots of suggestions for wine tasting in the area including Domaine Ott which is a five minute drive from the house.
- The hotel is situated 10km from the Circuit Paul Ricard which will be hosting the French Grand Prix plus many other races. The Hotel du Castellet opposite the track has one of the regions Michelin starred restaurants.

Introducing
Su Stephens
Friendly owner Su Stephens knows the area inside out and lives in the tiny hamlet of Brûlat so is close to her two properties: the self-catering Mas des Avelines and the small hotel Mas de Brûlat. She’s hugely attentive to the details that make all the difference to a Provencale stay and sees that everything runs smoothly. Su also arranges a programme of activities for guests, including cooking, cocktail mixology, yoga, Pilates, tennis and golf.
A brilliant idea to link these two properties with a clever website: “olivesandvines”. Clients have the choice of staying at a top class self catering vacation villa: the Mas des Avelines in the countryside or be looked after in one of the comfortable rooms at the Mas du Brûlat and enjoy everything a small “restaurant with rooms” has to offer.
