The Experience

Hidden at the end of an unpaved road (go carefully) on a wooded hillside facing a superb Lubéron view, your Provençal apartment for two is a private part of Will and Bea’s stone house. They live here working on fabrics to make sails for sun protection, are a delightful, much-travelled couple with one teenage son at home for weekends. They have done the house themselves with stones from the surrounding fields and reclaimed timbers, with special attention to insulation and eco-friendly materials and lots of furniture made from old beams and wine barrels plus cupboard doors from recycled shutters. They have also learned about dry Mediterranean gardening and your terrace is a shining example of drought-resistant planting. You have total quiet beneath magical night skies – no light pollution here, no telly – and a treasure-trove of natural colour: green oaks, lavender fields, the astonishing ochre formations of the Colorado de Provence national park where you can walk your boots off. When you come down off your remote hilltop you find those renowned Provençal markets and festivals, ‘perched villages’, wine-tastings…

We spent a wonderfully tranquil five days at this incredibly stylish, eco-friendly apartment with stunning views over the Luberon. Will and Bea were extremely welcoming and had plenty of tips to offer for places to discover in the region. Despite the August heat, we managed to do pack in plenty of activities to make the most of the excellent location. Highlights included our early morning walks (some which began right outside our doorstep), visiting some of the beautiful, historic villages nearby and wild swimming in an unusual location. We couldn't recommend this place more highly.

Marina, Paris

The atelier is thoughtfully designed and carefully renovated, the location is beautiful and peaceful and we so enjoyed our stay. Will and Bea were helpful and considerate hosts. We highly recommend a stay in this oasis of calm.

Betty and I had a wonderful, peaceful 2 weeks staying at the Atelier. The appartment is beautifully decorated and furnished with great attention to detail and Will and Bea were charming hosts - welcoming, warm and helpful without being in anyway intrusive. They have created a very special home, terraces and gardens and we had a beautiful, private space alongside. Cerrisons is located at the gateway to a narrow steep wooded valley and the house and Atelier blend effortlessly into the rocky hillside. All in all a beautiful haven. Con Lynch

Second visit to this most beautiful place on earth . This time in May when everything is so green and in flower. Stunning ! Discovered some great local walks and even got to loan Bea and Wills two wonderful dogs. If you get lost, they know the way home ! You don't need to travel far to discover the real Provence. So throw away those guide books. The nearby hamlet Villars has a great restaurant, a bar and a bakery. What more do you need ? Other local gems to discover are Saint-Saturnin Les -Apt, Saigon and Roussillon. Also highly recommended is the Fort at Bouox. So thanks again Bea and Will.

This is a spacious, comfortable, well equipped and presented apartment with plenty of outside space including a splendid terrace with sun loungers. Marvellous views. It is well off the beaten track, the only disturbance is the sound of nightingales, a haven of tranquillity. Will and Bea are the most obliging hosts. We find that with holiday accommodation one rarely receives what is promised. Atelier des Cerissons however will not disappoint.

Richard & Jill, Rothbury

Waking up here you could be forgiven for thinking you were back in the France of jean de florette. The sun burns off the mist in the valley, the sky clears to a cobalt blue and hint of woodsmoke lingers in the air as a most enchanting vista is revealed. I received a very warm welcome from my hosts Will and Bea who have, with great imagination, made this tranquil spot their home. Whether you want to visit Luberon villages, sample the sophistication of Aix or browse the famous Market in Apt, this is the ideal spot. I highly recommend Atelier des Cerrissons and look forward to returning soon.

What a heavenly place this is and what lovely hosts Will and Bea are. We could not have wished for more. The views are stunning, the quiet healing and the chats inspiring. No need to write too much because we will be back in no time.

The Atellier de Cresson is a delightful and beautifully renovated apartment using local and recycled products . It sits in a stunning rural setting with magnificent, far reaching views. The Owners, Will and Bea are so helpful and informative. The region is full of excellent places to visit. For someone looking for a peaceful holiday this is the place.

We had a great week at l'Atelier des Cerissons. The apartment is light and spacious. Used materials and equipment are of high quality. The outside space is huge, we especially loved the amazing hanging terrace. Lots of things to see and do in lovely Luberon. Very considerate and kind hosts. The ultimate provencal escape indeed!

Mieke, Obbicht

We were happy to have found ourselves again in the wonderful Luberon valley and to stay in this beautiful and sensitively designed atelier. The spacious living area is filled with light and has far reaching views across the cherry fields to the hills beyond. The property is a delight, both its peaceful and private location on the hillside and the quality of the accommodation. Every detail has been thought about, from the organic linens and stylish furnishings to the beautiful hand-crafted kitchen, the natural décor and artwork. Thank you to Will and Bea for making our holiday so special!

We have stayed three times at La Fumeraisse, and each time vowed to return: the views, proximity to nature, lack of any noise and the layout of the property ensure you relax. The accommodation has been tastefully completed with generous proportions. There are amazing walks and markets nearby to make this an unforgettable holiday, and the owners could not be more accommodating. It's a unique and truly outstanding hideaway.

We took a short spring break to this very peaceful beautiful part of Provence. It´s a tricky place to find, so don't rely on your GPS! But we got good directions from our hosts and driving up the bumpy track you suddenly discover this most exquisite stone house set in complete isolation. The Atelier is tastefully furnished and very comfortable. Spring is a great time to visit Provence. Perfect temperatures and so much to explore nearby. If you love wildflowers, Luberon this time of year is just one big garden. So yes we can highly recommend this outstanding destination. See you again soon !

We had this wonderful time in Atelier la cherissons, the apartment is light flooded, generous, tastfull arranged, everything is well chosen in in design and biologic quality , surrounded from a fantastic panoramic view, lots of possibilities for walks and trips , delicious food, good wins, and very nice and helpful hosts.

Simona, Berlin

This is a paradise! Far away from stress and caos, just next to the nature! You hear the owls at night, look at the beautiful french landscape from your kitchen window and you are 5 minutes away from hilly walks in beautiful nature. By car you reach within 10-30 minutes e.g small villages in the mountains with interesting history or if you prefer the bigger city Apt, with more shopping and a great market! Very tasteful apartment with privacy with nice and helpful landlords. Can´t wait to go back!!

Local points of interest from William Rae-Smith

  • If you search an escape into the wilderness you will love it here. In 15 years we have learnt about the local culture, customs and our environment. We can help you organise visits to the local towns or activities such as walks, cycling and wine-tasting.
  • The Luberon Natural Park. which spans 185,000 hectares, is rich in biological diversity. Over 1,500 species of flora and fauna inhabit the garrigues, cliffs, ridges and oak woodlands. This area will attract lovers of authenticity and unspoilt nature.
  • The cultural heritage of the Luberon has been punctuated by tumultuous events. Its perched villages, chapels, churches and cathedrals and the 2000 year old Domitian Way linking Italy and Spain bear witness today to this rich history.
  • The kitchen is fully equipped with everything to cook a good meal. Our local grower of organic vegetables as well as the local shops and famous French markets can provide the ingre
  • Our craftsmen have used recycled materials and a neutral colour scheme. Centennial oak beams were used to make up the kitchen surfaces. Works by local artists decorate the walls.
  • A large round table outside is a perfect place to enjoy breakfast on the calade. On the drystone "hanging" terraces you can enjoy the evening light in the leafy surrounds of the indigenous oak trees and the polyphonic birdsong.

Will and Bea, warm, delightful, creative people, brought up their family in the Luberon. In 2019, "respecting the traditional style of the house and using ecological materials," they renovated their second Sawday's place Les Tamisiers. They love meeting guests, but their main business is creating awnings for local restaurants and hotels.
