La Croisette

In a lovely unsung corner of northern Provence - walking distance from a quaint village - a super farmhouse with gardens and pool

An authentic French experience in a hushed swathe of vineyards and historic hilltop villages. You stay in the 1835 main farmhouse with its pale rendered walls, pretty blue shutters and charming old stone stairs. Friendly owners live part-time in a handsome building nearby and leave you a bottle of local red wine or champagne. You’ll find a good-sized sitting room with comfy sofas and a wood-burning stove, a kitchen with a large dining table and all the paraphernalia you need for holiday cooking, and country style bedrooms with a fresh cool feel, rural views and original watercolours on the walls. You have your own pergola-shaded terrace and garden for convivial outdoor meals in the sunshine; if it gets too hot then just hurl yourselves into the generous pool. You can amble to the village for shops, two bars and a restaurant, or visit one of the area’s markets. Wine tastings, walks, cycle routes, canoeing, golf – all will tempt you but it’s peaceful here and you may prefer to idle.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Jennifer Green

  • Picturesque Provencal villages, historic Roman sites, and bustling street markets are all just a short drive from the house.
  • Sampling the delights of the local Cotes du Rhone vineyards can take you to all sorts of unexpected places, from the truly Dickensian cave to the ultra chic and sophisticated experience.
  • Cycling or driving through purple lavender fields at the end of June when the scent just fills the air is a joy for all the senses.
  • Mont Ventoux is a must if you are a cycling fanatic. You may want to try and beat the current guest record of cycling up and down 3 times in a day, but definitely only for the super fit. For the rest of us, there are plenty of other easier cycling routes.
  • Music events and wine festivals are everywhere during the height of the summer period.
  • Wandering down to the local bar & brasserie to mix with the locals after a peaceful day relaxing by the pool is a good way to end the day.
