An authentic French experience in a hushed swathe of vineyards and historic hilltop villages. You stay in the 1835 main farmhouse with its pale rendered walls, pretty blue shutters and charming old stone stairs. Friendly owners live part-time in a handsome building nearby and leave you a bottle of local red wine or champagne. You’ll find a good-sized sitting room with comfy sofas and a wood-burning stove, a kitchen with a large dining table and all the paraphernalia you need for holiday cooking, and country style bedrooms with a fresh cool feel, rural views and original watercolours on the walls. You have your own pergola-shaded terrace and garden for convivial outdoor meals in the sunshine; if it gets too hot then just hurl yourselves into the generous pool. You can amble to the village for shops, two bars and a restaurant, or visit one of the area’s markets. Wine tastings, walks, cycle routes, canoeing, golf – all will tempt you but it’s peaceful here and you may prefer to idle.
