The Experience

Vineyards behind, open fields in front, manicured grounds and an immaculate house: perfection in Provence! Sleeping eight in unrivalled comfort, it’s ideal for families, with toys, games, cots and highchairs galore, and a fenced pool. It’s also a place for those who want to get away from it all; the only sounds you hear are the birds and, come summer, the cicadas. Enter to find rooms well-proportioned, tastefully furnished and flooded with light, from the excellent kitchen to the living/dining area (opening to the patio and pool) and the two en suites on the ground floor. Upstairs are two more en suites, with lofty ceilings and high beams, reminders of the original bergerie. As for the area – it’s marvellous. Stock up at the market at Lourmarin, bask on the beach of the Lac de Bonde, explore the Luberon vineyards (some old, some new), hop in the car to classy Aix, plan a day in wonderful Avignon. This feels remote but not too remote; up on the hill is the pretty village of Grambois, while the nearest café is a stroll, on the fountain’d square of little Peypin d’Aigues.

Reviews

We are safely home after a wonderful fortnight. I just wanted to say how much we enjoyed it and how well the house worked – all a great success. The train is an excellent alternative. We failed to realise it would have been even quicker to get off at Aix rather than Avignon. R and V, Winchester July 2020

We have just spent the most idyllic week relaxing in your beautiful home. We enjoyed every moment, it has been the perfect place for an early Christmas celebration. With a cosy log fire, plenty of good food and wine, we loved the house so much we didn’t venture far, therefore must return sometime to explore.

This is written on the last day of a fabulous week spent at Le Bonhomme. A wonderfully comfortable house, hot water in abundance, peace, quiet …. the five of us can look back on a week of total pleasure and contentment ….. we so enjoyed this magic part of France.

Local points of interest from Elizabeth Tyzack

  • Explore the magic of the Luberon at any time of the year and you will be amazed - truffle hunting, wine tasting, open air markets, cycling (including electric), the Med, Aix en Provence, a Roman city of fountains, the bridge at Avignon and more ...
  • Orchids bloom in the meadow in spring. Catch the occasional rare sight of young hares playing around the house
  • May and June are stunning months - mediterranean flowers are in full bloom and ripe cherries can be picked from the tree. Enjoy the heated pool after a wander through the paths around the house
  • Hire bikes can be delivered to the house (electric bikes included) - the Luberon bike route passes the road to the house - explore the local vineyards and hilltop villages or shop in the exotic outdoor markets
  • Take long walks in the hills and admire the far reaching views of the Southern Alps or the Mont Ste Victoire
  • In late September life in the villages carries on as the grape harvest gets underway
