The Experience

Take a glass of the estate wine to the terrace overlooking the distant hills, and watch the sun set. In whatever direction you turn your gaze, all you’ll see is beauty.

This rambling Provencal mas with a gite in the grounds has a cave for wine tasting and 18th-century walls that keep rooms calm and cool. With private entrances and outdoor spaces, some of the bedrooms face the vines and others Mont Ventoux.

After a bountiful breakfast on the terrace of pastries, homegrown fruit and veg, yogurt and homemade jams, Vanessa will point you towards the hilltop villages. Gordes, Bonnieux, Roussillon: all within a half-hour drive. Return to wafting lavender and manicured lawns, a summer kitchen, a weekly barbecue, pétanque and the pool.

Reviews

Les Roullets is bliss. Our room was beautiful, breakfast was excellent and the grounds and surrounding countryside were sensational.

Harriet, LONDON

Les Roullets is an incredible place, the house itself surrounded by their own vines from which you can visit the cave under the house to sample the reds and rosé. You are in the stunning Luberon valley with endless age-old hilltop villages to visit. Most of all, it's a place to relax and enjoy your surroundings - and meeting Vanessa who is delightful to chat with.

Location

The neighbourhood

Surrounded by vineyards, it's peaceful here. Flanked by an olive grove and a truffle forest, the estate produces organic red and rosé wines, and olive oil too. It's all about outdoor living here, so read, wander, bask, swim, or rent the electric bikes and head up the hill, to ancient Oppède Le Vieux. Equally lovely is little Ménerbes, 2.7km, with restaurants, bars and a weekly market. For serious cyclists, Mont Ventoux is an hour's drive.

Local points of interest from Vanessa Lewis

  • Ménerbes, the charming hilltop village made famous in Peter Mayle's classic, A Year in Provence, is a 5-minute drive away. Or you could hire an electric bikes and cycle there.
  • There are local markets selling vibrant produce and arts and crafts every morning. The antique market in Isle sur la Sorgue on Sunday morning is world class.
  • Provence is heaven for food and wine lovers, whether you're after Michelin-starred fine dining or an intimate table d'hôte. Alternatively you can rustle up your own supper in the summer kitchen with the glorious produce from the kitchen garden and orchard.
  • The Carrières de Lumières in Les Baux de Provence is an immersive art installation projected on the walls, floor and ceiling of a disused quarry.
  • There are lots of hiking trails around the property offering spectacular views of the Luberon mountains and valley and the nearby medieval hilltop village of Oppède le Vieux.
  • History buffs will enjoy visiting the Palais de Papes in Avignon and the roman sites in Orange and Arles. The roman aqueduct, Le Pont du Gard, is also worth visiting.
