The Experience

Stroll to butcher, baker, grocer, two restaurants: lovely village life. Return to a leafy back garden, a mulberry for shade, and peace in the hum of cicadas. The honey-stone house, once a farmhouse, now extended, is in perfect keeping with the village. All is on one level except for a sitting area on the gallery, it is characterful, roomy and has five French windows so you can drift in and out. Two lead to the patio from the living room – bright, beamy, homely, with its squishy sofa and open fire – and one leads from the kitchen, the hub of the house and astonishingly well-equipped (the owner even leaves a file of local recipes to try). Bedrooms are private and comfortably furnished (one brand new), with polished wood floors, Thai wall hangings and classic French flourishes. The master room has a ceiling fan and bathrooms are the business: walk-in showers, heaps of towels. Books, CDs, DVDs, honey, olives, fruits, fougasse, wine… these are the extras. There’s more: a charming couple to greet you, antiques at L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, walks in all directions, and a delicious pool at the front.

Reviews

We had a wonderful two weeks at Maison d'Artiste. The house is very nice with living spaces in the middle and the three bedrooms nicely separated. The setting is beautiful and peaceful, the gardens and pool area lovely. Rosie and Carlo are wonderful hosts. We would definitely enjoy staying again.

Michael, Ann Arbor

A perfect house in a perfect location, spacious, well equipped, comfortable and luxurious; they really have thought of everything, even shopping baskets to take to the many local markets. Well located to enjoy the delicious food and wine of the region.

Diana, London

Maison d'Artiste is a great base for a holiday in the beautiful Vaucluse. There are many interesting places to explore within easy reach. The hosts gave us a warm welcome to the house which is comfortably furnished and very well equipped, with pretty sunny and shady spots for relaxing in the garden. The attractive village is peaceful with boulangerie, small general store and restaurant a short walk from the house. An award winning boulangerie/patisserie is just a short drive away! We very much enjoyed our stay.

The house was ideal for our group of three couples. The bedrooms are nicely laid out across the house giving everyone space and privacy. At the same time, the property has a choice of spaces for socialising, including pool pavilion, beautiful walled back garden and even a pétanque terrain. The house is very comfortable and equipped with everything you could need. Location is right on the edge of the pretty village of Cabrières with a bakery and a restaurant, and perfectly positioned for exploring the beautiful Lubéron. And the wonderful welcome from the hosts really made this the perfect stay.

Maison D’Artiste is a lovely house within a peaceful attractive village within easy walking distance of the local boulangerie. The kitchen is the best stocked of any house we have rented and the air conditioning a huge bonus! It’s an excellent location for visiting Gorde, Rousillon and Sault for the lavender fields. Coustellet Market is not to be missed on Sunday morning with an amazing range of food. A week of lovely memories.

Maison d'Artiste is a gem amongst gems. The house is beautifully maintained and it is among the most comfortable rental homes we have ever experienced. Three bedrooms, three baths, swimming pool - what is not to like? The kitchen is fully equipped for almost anything you would like to cook. Within walking distance are a top restaurant, bakery, butcher, green grocer and numerous trails for exploration. All in all, a 5+-star accommodation.

Tim, Houston, Texas

Location central to places of interest but quiet and tranquil with views of the hills, and nice garden areas front and back. House itself well laid out and spacious. An attractive mix of traditional style with every modern comfort. Kitchen especially well appointed. Bedrooms cool retreat from the heat. Beds comfortable and appreciated high quality bed linen. Good sized pool much used in the sunny weather we were lucky to have. The house is easy walking distance to village shops and restaurants but you do need to have your own transport to go further afield.
