The Experience

From the sky-blue shutters to the pretty garden, this cottage has Provence all wrapped up. On the slopes beneath Gordes, it’s cosy and private but just a short walk to one of the Luberon’s dreamiest villages. Slip through the gate, past the olive and mulberry trees and into a house which blends East and West; a reflection of the Anglo-Taiwanese owners. Designed for two, there’s a downstairs open-plan living room and conservatory dining room, and upstairs bedroom, study and shower room. Light and airy, the white walls, white beams, creamy tiles and exposed pale stone are the perfect backdrop for the Indian colonial antiques and exotic touches – perhaps a Pakistani rug or smiling Buddha – that are carefully dotted throughout. The large kitchen is shiny in stainless steel; the living room cool in cream; the conservatory with glimpses of Gordes and the Luberon. A four-poster bed with views to Gordes is romantic, the shower-room is sleek in stone. Lavender fields, village markets, walking trails and abbeys are all close. Or just doze in the shade of your perfect Provencal garden with its rattan swing.

An absolute delight! Quartier des Poulety is wonderful - so characterful, beautifully and tastefully renovated and decorated, really comfortable and a perfect location in a quiet hamlet within easy walking distance of the centre of Gordes. Great base for exploring the many delights of the Luberon, from wine-tasting to hiking to markets and excellent food. Joyce and Phil were in their house across the road while we were staying, and were so warm and welcoming and full of great suggestions and local knowledge. Couldn't have been better - we thoroughly recommend this gorgeous place!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Joyce and Phil. We were so thrilled that the location and house more than lived up to expectations. The house is sophisticated, warm and artistic and the wonderful curated stacks of books are an invitation to sit and read. The location is ideal for day trips to the many markets, wineries, gorgeous villages and fabulous hiking in the region. A short walk up the hill to Gordes, it provided a great home base for adventure. Joyce and Phil are engaging and thoughtful hosts and we can’t imagine staying anywhere else on a return visit.

We had a great holiday with the Quartier des Poulety as our stylish and comfortable base. Being just outside Gordes was ideal. Our little hamlet was well away from the tourist hustle and bustle but we really enjoyed our evening walks up the hill into town for a quiet sundowner. The views are well worth the effort! The house itself is delightful. It’s spacious and well equipped, with lots of interesting decorative details - all thoughtfully and creatively combined. The icing on the cake was meeting the helpful and hospitable owners who made us very welcome. We’d love to return.

We spent a wonderful week in this charming Provencal house, just a short walk from the famous hilltop village of Gordes. The house is full of character, blending its Provencal origins with Asian art. We loved strolling up the hill in the morning to buy fresh croissants from the village bakery and would often make the trip again in the evening to enjoy the stunning, panoramic views of the Luberon valley. The house is perfectly located for exploring the region. The local markets were a favourite for us. We can't wait to return!

We spent a week in May in this Provencale gem of a house. We've travelled all over France but never before have we stayed anywhere that has so thoroughly captured our hearts. Lovingly restored, eclectically and elegantly furnished, with a pretty garden where we breakfasted each morning, the house is situated in a tranquil hamlet just a few minutes from the vibrant bustle of Gordes. The surrounding countryside was verdant and covered in spring flowers and there were many lovely places within easy reach. Joyce and Phil were warm and generous hosts with a wealth of local knowledge.

We had a truly amazing stay. The charming stone house is tastefully decorated with tons of characters and all the modern conveniences one could ask for. It is comfy and feels like home (only a lot nicer!). Having a cup of coffee and croissant in the lovely sunroom overlooking the garden in the morning was definitely one of the most memorable moments. Gordes is not only a beautiful town itself, but is in an ideal location to travel around Luberon. Finally, the hosts, Joyce and Phil, are always happy to answer our questions and offer useful travel tips around the area. Two thumbs up!!!

I had a lovely stay at this charming home. Beautifully done up, it had everything I needed. The home is a short walk from the lovely village - do not miss the weekly market on Tuesday - and a nice hike from the stunning Abbey. It is a beautiful part of the country, with several quaint villages in which to stop and spend a couple of hours or have a glass of wine. The hosts were thoughtful and attentive, and made me feel welcome and well looked after. Highly recommended.

An absolutely charming cottage, everything I'd hoped to find for a stay in Provence. Lovely and quiet, a beautiful sunroom, and lovely upstairs bedroom overlooking the Luberon valley. The house is in excellent condition with some lovely touches. Plenty to do, with historical Gordes just up the hill. A short car drive to plenty of nearby villages and attractions, from Roussillon to Oped. Also an easy drive to L'Isle Sur La Sorgue. Thoroughly recommend it and will definitely be back

As a honeymoon destination, for us, this house and area were pretty darn perfect! We love cooking, driving and exploring new areas- this house was a home away from home and fully equipped for our lavish cooking tendencies. Jocye and Phil have done an amazing job furnishing and restoring the old chicken building, we felt so welcome and really enjoyed venturing out to markets, 'caves', museums, the Camargue and the orange rocks in Roussillon (to name a few). The best bit was that we were able to retreat back after a busy, hot day to a fantastic shower and cool, beautiful, quiet house.

I was there last spring for my vacation, love the stay there! The house was decorated with a lot of love collected around the world, super clean with great location, I gave it a 5 star on the both, however this is just the basic item you want from every stay, not the real reason that I love the stay there, Joyce is a great host, gave me a lot of suggestions on where to go and where to eat, always checking out on me if I need anything! Everything is as what the pictures show! A 100% beautiful classic Gordes house, trust me, you will not regret, go and immerse yourself in the real Provence life!

Bonnie, Taoyuan

We're from UK and traveled to Provence for a short holiday! The owners are very friendly and patient with my queries about the house and location! They even recommended a handful of attractions! The house is lovely as well; it's got personality with many antiques and decor from Asia, and it's cosy with comfy furnitures, just like the photos! The lighting in the dining room is absolutely amazing and it has a good view of the village Gordes. The location is convenient for us to drive to different villages in Luberon. We're very pleased with the house and will recommend it to friends & family!

  • The uphill walk from the house to Gordes is with stunning views over the Luberon valley, well worth either to frequent the bakery for daily croissants like locals do or to enjoy an aperitif on the terrace of the historic Le Cercle Républicain cafe
  • Walks in nearby vineyards
