The Experience

Paul’s apartments may not be big in size, but he has a flair for letting in maximum light and creating a sense of space, and a clever mix of design styles ensures a personal feel. Look out for the delicate line drawings on the cupboards that were painted by a local artist.

Find all you need to cook sophisticated meals, including a generous supply of the basics and a market just down the road. Alternatively, Versailles has a lively food scene with excellent restaurants of all types, from pizzerias to Michelin-starred French gastronomy at its best, within a 10-minute walk.

All the delights of Versailles are on your doorstep, not least the splendid Palace. The city itself is beautiful and buzzes with an influx of young designers and artisans who work either on the endless restoration of the Palace or have set up workshops in the city. It is very easy to pop into Paris, too – Montparnasse station is 12 minutes away by train.

Accommodation

Reviews

I should love to spend several days visiting Versailles from this base. Paul is an engaging host, cultured and informed, who has done several excellent interior conversions here with care, competence and a light hand. Each space is differently pleasing and welcomes you with an unexpected sense of space and lots of artistic details to enjoy. Good beds, neat practical kitchens and lots of light.

Location

The neighbourhood

The apartments are set in a low-rise building with a central courtyard. History buffs can visit the Salle du Jeu de Paume, where the "Oath of the Jeu de Paume" was signed in the Revolution. Interesting businesses here include a famous mural painting school run by an American, the ISIPCA perfume school (the biggest in the world) and the Conservatoire International des Parfums, a perfume archive open for tours.

Local points of interest from Paul Bertin

  • We're situated less than a 10-minute walk away from the Château. Shops and the magnificent Versailles market are 5 minutes away.
  • You'll find lots of restaurants nearby, and the nearest station for getting into central Paris is only a 4-minute walk away.

Introducing

Paul Bertin

Paul lives around the corner. He's a photographer who made a name for himself in magazines and advertising before deciding to jump on the real estate wagon. He bought a small flat, did it up and rented it out, then bought the next flat that came onto the market in that building, and so on; he now owns seven out of the nine apartments. He loves interior design and supporting local artists.
