The Experience

Surrounded by flat lands, a magnificent château in acres of parkland with pool. Inside is equally splendid. A sleek modern décor illuminates fine stonework and medieval beams, there’s a games room for children, a grand piano for musicians and, beneath the great carved fireplace, a convivial breakfast table. In summer you can tuck into croissants, hams and jams by the moat beneath the willow. Spend the day in charming old Lyon or treat the family to the Parc des Oiseaux… return for a château tour with your hosts (Monsieur has a passion for history), pick up dinner at the local takeaway pizzeria. Tasteful bedrooms, two large, two smaller but still a good size, with compact bathrooms spotless and chic, lie in the courtyard stables but the family room is in the château itself – with an amazing massage bath. Your hosts have heaps of information about the area: the Hameau Dubœuf wine museum is not far and the region is brilliant for Beaujolais.

Simply fantastic. A beautifully & tastefully renovated chateau in a peaceful location, wonderful gardens & glorious swimming pool. From my initial email communication, our hostess, Mihi, was extremely helpful. Our room was a beautiful romantic suite in the turret – very comfortable & well equipped with amazing bathroom. Lots of welcoming little touches including a bottle of wine. Breakfast had lots of choice including fresh fruit & was one of the best on our trip. It was a great shame that we only had one night here. If in the area again we would definitely return and would recommend to all

Simply extraordinary - we could not have been more impressed with Chateau de Tanay. We booked a family room for two nights while on our way to the South of France. Our hosts were very welcoming and our room was delightful. The family room is a beautifully renovated chapel in the Chateau itself and was both charming and very comfortable. Breakfast was served in the stunning grounds, and our children were invited to pick cherries from the trees. Our hosts shared the history of the chateau over a glass of wine, as well as providing many helpful recommendations. We would not hesitate to recommend.

This is a gem of a place. We stayed here on route to Geneva airport and we're delighted by the peacefulness and calmness of the property. Mihi gives a great welcome and cares for anything you might need. Clean, comfy room, modern, not old chateau at all, but that suited us. Air conditioned room, with everything thought of that you might need. She booked us a dinner eservation in a nearby town and bought us a drink whilst we sat in the sun in their delightful garden. Breakfast was served in the garden which was lovely. we were not charged for the drinks we had. That's a first for us!

The property is stunning and peaceful. The hosts were warm and welcoming. For your comfort, they had thought of every thing. The bedroom decor was very tasteful. There are lovely grounds to walk in with a very nice pool. There was a fantastic varied choice for breakfast and we ate outside. We will definitely return.

We cannot recommend Chateau de Tanay enough. We've been two summers in a row, and hope to go again next year. It is in a lovely area, perfect for families with a zoo and beautiful bird park very close. The Chateau is beautiful and the grounds and garden too. Our children absolutely loved the pool - spending most of the afternoon in it . We have been lucky enough to stay in the tower room which is perfect with children and the breakfasts are absolutely delicious. A really special place.

An excellent stopover en route from Provence to a family party in the Jura. Welcoming hosts. A very comfortable and recently decorated bedroom in the converted stables close by to very well maintained medieval chateau (and where breakfast was provided). Lovely grounds and a great swimming pool. Reasonably priced. All in all, a very pleasant spot.

Very much liked our two night stay at the Chateau de Tanay - a beautiful old building with outstanding accommodation attached. We were very sorry to hear that the Chateau will be closed from the end of March this year.

Gary, Stirling

A lovely place in a peaceful location. Our room was small, but perfectly adequate, modern and spotlessly clean. As it wasn't quite ready Madame offered us a drink of fruit juice while she told us all the necessary information.. However, she was most surprised when I enquired about tanking an evening meal at the château, as this is something they have never done although the Sawdays website states that they do. The local pizzeria shuts on a Monday, but there are good restaurants in the nearby town and we enjoyed an excellent meal there on the banks of the Saône.

Local points of interest from Benoît Haym

  • We're located right at the doors of the Dombes region, you'll be close to our patrimonial treasures, the Saint Curé d'Ars sur Formans & it's basilisk & wax museum, Villefranche sur Saone, capital of the Beaujolais region, & the Golden Stones area.
  • Of course Lyon is a great city to visit, the very famous 'Capitale Lumière' and its gastronomy are only a 30min drive.
  • We now have a pool table for guests to use!
