The
Experience

This ancient group of stone farm buildings once belonged to farmers who lived off anything from chestnuts to mushrooms to silkworms. The old “clède” (chestnut dryer) has been lovingly resuscitated for visitors by its talented and welcoming landscape-architect owners. They’ve done wonders with the huge main house, too: rent the east wing of Le Mas, even the whole building. The spectacular setting is 30 wooded hectares of the regional nature park, the mountain views will knock you over, the exploring is an adventurous child’s dream. Choose fishing, boating, lake swimming, or the spring-fed infinity pool and home cinema, or market towns for food, festivals and culture (book early to see the astonishing cave paintings of la Grotte Chauvet). Built on several levels, the houses are warm and rustic with some steep stairs, wood-burners, plenty of light and a fabulous dining-cum-billiards table in Le Mas. Bedrooms with daytime views and night-time owls, a private terrace in La Clède and nothing over-sophisticated. Ask about delicious home-cooked meals, one of Christine’s many talents.

Reviews

Le Serre d’Aubrias is a magical place. It is the sort of place that you very quickly feel very relaxed in. The view from the pool and spacious outdoor seating area is breathtaking. Christine is very friendly and cooked a divine meal for us one evening. There are stunning walks (from the house which is a bonus) and river/gorge trips activities a drive away. Be sure to get directions as it’s tricky to find.

Wow, this is a very special place !! We spent a week in L' Est and had a most delightful time. The host was most endearing in making our holiday a great success, from cooking us a superb evening meal to introducing us to The Lake et al. An enoromous thank you.

  • Not far away, Mont Lozère, whose silhouette is visible from the field, offers spectacular hiking trails ... you can explore this Unesco world heritage site on foot or by mountain bike.
  • The summer season is full of cultural activities in the small surrounding villages: Theatre, concerts, open air cinema, exhibitions ... Small local markets will allow you to discover the specialties and products from our beautiful Cevennes area
  • Want to "escape" for a day trip? You can visit the famous Grotte Chauvet, the Grand site of the Aven d'Orgnac, the Camargue, the Pont du Gard, Arles, Avignon (festival in July), down the Ardèche canoe on the side of Vallon Pont d'Arc .
  • A few minutes from the Mas (Malbosc, Aujac) small restaurants will allow you to taste the local cuisine, and I can cook you a meal with vegetables, fruits and herbs from the garden!
  • I fell in love with the place 28 years ago, and put down some roots... I hope I can share with you my love for living here where you can breath and dream ...
