The Experience

This stylish chalet started life as a farmhouse tucked in a cluster of old barns just outside the centre of Morzine and the original cattle shed has been transformed into a double-height dining room that serves as the centrepiece of the house.

In summer, you’re very well looked-after by Alex and Tom with a drink on arrival and a hearty breakfast – bread and croissants from the boulangerie, homemade granola, yogurt pots and fresh fruit or cooked options like poached eggs and bacon. In the evenings, a chef can be brought in to cook for you or drive 5 minutes into nearby Morzine for plenty of restaurants to choose from.

Chill out with a massage in the treatment room; play pool, read or chat with other guests; sit out on the outside deck or in the hot tub. Explore the area by bike, on foot or go paragliding and rafting. Morzine also has an Olympic-sized pool and tennis courts.

Chalet Fourmiliere is a fantastically fun place to stay! Alex and Tom and brilliant hosts and will ensure great conversation, and Jay a super chef whose food is a delight. This was the perfect base from which to explore and cycle in the Portes du Soleil - and then to return to relax and unwind.

The neighbourhood

The chalet is set in a small hamlet, with the other houses mostly occupied by local families. You’re a two-minute walk to a bus stop that takes you into Morzine, or you can drive in 5 minutes. The popular Le Lac de Montriond is also a ten-minute drive away, and has a swimming area, water sports and walking and cycling routes. Ask Alex and Tom for local recommendations, including restaurants and activities.

Local points of interest from Alex Bailey-Staines

  • Summer holidays in the Alps are arguably even more fabulous than winter ones. Come and enjoy the wild flowers, clean air, mountains and lakes, and sunny, warm weather, together with a packed calendar of local events. Let us help you plan an amazing trip.
  • With so much to do you will be spoilt for choice… wild swimming, paddle boarding, horse riding, climbing, hiking, biking, white water rafting… Forget about the stresses of everyday life with some yoga and mindfulness practice on a mountain peak…
  • Locally there is an abundance of leisure opportunities; swimming pools, tennis courts, golf courses, weekly markets and terrific restaurants offering both traditional Savoyard and more contemporary international offerings – ask for our recommendations.

Alex Bailey-Staines

Alex and Tom are both warm, interesting people who want everyone to get to know each other, get on well and have a good time. Both are from Buckinghamshire, and Tom still travels back to the UK to work for a few days a week – he’s usually at the chalet from Thursday to Sunday nights. He’s a consultant for retail organisations and also works with various charities. Alex was a small business and life coach who still does some work remotely and is passionate about food and the history of Morzine.
