The Experience

This elegant house has parts which date to the 16th century and is surrounded by a hectare of lovely parkland with a tree-lined avenue. It’s set in a residential area between the centre of a small village and the church, but you aren’t overlooked.

Dominique and Nicholas raised their five sons here so there’s a relaxed, family feel to the place. Your quirky suite has its own sitting room but you’re welcome to roam downstairs – play the piano, read, relax by the fire in the sitting room or play pool next door; gather for homemade breakfast and typical Lyonnaise dinner in the dining room – Dominique’s a fantastic cook.

Sit out in the garden or by the pool with a book, use the jacuzzi, sauna and gym; stroll into the village in ten minutes or drive to Lyon in half an hour. Ask about good places to eat – there are options within 3km including Paul Bocuse’s three Michelin-starred restaurant.

The neighbourhood

The house is set in a residential area between the centre of the small village of Curis au Mont d’Or and the village church – listen out for the bells. Drive to Lyon in half an hour for excellent restaurants and cutting-edge architecture in Lyon Confluence, as well as the Fête de Lumières light festival in December. Picturesque Beaujolais is also half an hour away.

Local points of interest from Dominique Tollet

  • What to find in the Demeure : Rest, laze, calm, couple or family, by the pool, in the park of one hectare or taking advantage of the jacuzzi ... that happiness!
  • Stroll through Old Lyon, its traboules, its cathedral with its astronomical clock, where the Renaissance and the Middle Ages mingle side by side. Enjoy the wonderful view over the city from next to the Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourvière.
  • The Festival of Lights is a popular event where all the buildings of Lyon are spectacularly illuminated. This event is held every year for four days around December 8th. The House of Monts d'Or is 25 minutes from the city center.
  • In Lyon there are more than twenty museums : the Musée des Confluences with its ground-breaking architecture, Le Musée des Beaux Arts in the heart of the city, the Musée Gadagne , the Musée des Tissus et des ARts décoratifs, the Musée Gallo-Romain...
  • In Villefranche-sur-Saône, 15 minutes from la Demeure, various museum centres can be visited, such as the Paul Dini Museum that combines collections of 19th and 20th century regional artists.
  • Enjoy the region’s leading restaurants, Le Restaurant Guy Lassausaie, Le Restaurant Paul Bocuse, its Brasseries. Also try the traditional Bressan cuisine and its famous poultry in the Ain Department. Let yourself be tempted by the Beaujolais wines.

Dominique Tollet

Dominique and Nicholas have always lived in the area and bought the house in 2002 as a family home, although they always wanted to run a B&B – when they retired they got their chance. The house is big enough that they have their own separate quarters – along with two of their sons, who still live at home. They like to welcome their guests with a cake and share an aperitif with them before dinner.
