The
Experience

Close to the autoroute, yet with to-die-for views – they soar over vineyards to Mounts Brouilly and Blanc. Built in regional style against the hillside is this very French, contemporary-smart house. Sociable and perfectionist, Monique and Jean-Michel began B&B when they retired; small pretty bedrooms have chalky mango-wood tables, sparkling bathrooms, glorious views. Guests are spoilt with the salon: tea-making kit and plenty of books. Rare birds, orchids and butterflies dwell in the valley below; cycling, wine tasting and Lyon are close by. Dine with the family on salade Lyonnaise and chicken in champagne. Intimate and stunning.

Reviews

Absolutely stunning! Hosts who genuinely emjoy entertaining, great cooking, idyllic location and amazing value. This is the best B&B we know.

A really nice couple, very welcoming and cheerful. Madame cooked the most perfect meal for our first evening - it was all delicious, beautifully presented, five courses with an aperitif and wine - and only €25 each. I thought it was the best meal we had in France. And they had the meal with us so that was particularly nice, with lots of opportunities to speak French. Our room and bathroom were small but very comfortable with a lovely little terrace of its own, and the living/sitting room with kitchen facilities was perfect for us to come and go from and have our picnics when we wanted.

Jean-Michel and Monique. What a find! Miles up into the vineyards of Beaujolais – indeed, Beaujeu is only 4 kms away. Brilliant cook, happy to give her recipes away, and eating en famille was a great joy. A view to die for, with Mont Blanc visible, 50 miles away, on a clear day. Also, an oasis of calm, even when the vendage was being done in the adjacent fields. J-M took time out to take us to a small viticulturist 3 kms away, who took us through the whole process, totally in French, which taxed my knowledge of French to the full. 14/10…quite outstanding.

My wife and I stayed at La Croix de Saburin for three peaceful nights. The location is spectacular, nestled on the slope of a working vineyard, with views across the valley. The hosts are charming and eager to help with any local travel planning. We enjoyed a delicious multi-course meal on our first evening; wine from vines just outside the door. Breakfasts are filling and served at a table with valley views. The silence at night is sleep-inducing with only sounds of birds. Beds are cozy and comfortable. The ensuite is perfect with a great shower. Summer evenings poolside; a dream to consider.

What a find,it is a little gem in an oasis of vineyards.Monique and Jean Michel are absolutely delightful hosts, warm friendly and full of good humour. The house has been thoughtfully modernised and the bedrooms with Monique's attention to detail are pleasant and comfortable. Together your hosts will offer you a wonderfully entertaining evening in a delightful setting. Monique is an excellent cook and Jean Michel certainly understands wine, they will present you with a meal you will not only enjoy but remember long after you have returned home. A place once experienced never to be forgotten.
