The Experience

A top-floor eyrie, an amazing bolthole in Vieux Lyon. A lift ferries you to the fourth floor of a Renaissance tower… then it’s up a sweeping stone, window-lit stair and into a bedroom with yellow-wash walls, terracotta floors and a view of the Basilica from the bed. There are 17 windows on your two floors, each with a view of the rooftops of Lyon; on a clear day you can see to Mont Blanc. Find smart fluffy towels, basics in the fridge, a Nespresso machine for classy breakfast coffee and, if you order in advance, dinner for late arrivals. It’s a big turret climb (not for the faint-hearted) up to the living area: a stylish orange sofa that converts to a bed, a breakfast bar with stools, a modern desk, a brilliant oven-dishwasher. The owners live close by and Patrick is a great chef; hence the corner kitchen fabulously equipped. The shower room is on the mezzanine, reached by an open-tread stair – smart, white, compact and best avoided after too much beaujolais! A daily market lines the riverbank (vintage books on Saturdays) and the city is a buzz with great bistros and ‘bouchons’, hidden nooks and corners and – free bikes!

A fascinating, quirky (in a good way) place to stay in old Lyon. Amazing views - and a great spot with plenty of places to eat and drink on your doorstep. Stephane was very welcoming with great advice for places to eat.

A very pleasant apartment near the center of the city and easy to get to. Quite original and cosy, in spite of the staircases, nicely decorated and with a kitchen very pratical. Very calm although in a lively spot of Lyon. A breathtaking view from the top floor, even roofs under the snow one morning ! Stephane's welcoming is warm and helpful. So a very nice stay !!

This is a unique experience. The tower is on two floors linked by a fascinating spiral staircase. The 17 windows provide for fantastic views of old Lyon, and the light is tremendous in the 360° tower. The accommodation has been equipped with a great eye for detail and features high-quality furnishing. Unlike some self-catering places, you don´t need to bring your coffee, tea, olive oil, balsamico vinegar as these are provided. A nice detail. You are situated in a pedestrian zone, so it is very quiet, yet within a couple of minutes you are among lively restaurants and wonderful artisan shops.

We felt like we had discovered an extraordinary hidden gem. La Tour is an amazingly comfortable, historically rich tower, with outstanding views in all directions that never ceased to amaze us. The owners, Stephane and Patrick, who live in this historic district themselves, had taken great care to make us feel welcome and their preservation of this rich architectural history is truly admirable. The location is exceptional, within walking distance of great restaurants, local markets and exceptional cultural sites. It was our first time in Lyon and we loved it. Alison & Gerry

Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful! We love Lyon and now that we've discovered the gem that is LaTour we can't wait to visit again!! The apartment is so special, the location just perfect and Stephane is a fabulous host. We highly recommend staying in this well equipped, delightful, historic and cosy nest high above the rooftops, with views that are out of this world, for the greatest way to experience this fabulous city!

This place is as amazing as it sounds. The location is perfect, and the views are truly spectacular. You really are near to all the delights of Vieux-Lyon, but with peace and quiet up in your lofty mediaeval tower, and its stone spiral staircase. We find it hard to believe anyone would want to stay somewhere else if visiting this charming city. Stephane made everything easy for checking in and out. This was the base for one of our best ever holidays.

Graham, London

La Tour is situated on a very quiet street in Vieux Lyon. A perfect location for a visit to Lyon. It is within easy walking distance of most attractions in Lyon. The bus is very close and runs directly to the TGV station and also Les Halles where a visit is a must.   Lyon is a wonderful city to visit and the panoramic views from the top floor of la Tour are spectacular. The apartment is very compact and the owners have put a lot of thought into equipping it with everything that a visitor needs. Stephane was very obliging and made an immediate response to our requests.

La Tour is the perfect place to stay for a city Break in Lyon. Arranged on the upper two floors of a 14th century tower, the living room is connected to the bedroom by a stone spiral stairway. It should be noted that the property is not suitable for persons with restricted mobility. La Tour is located in a quiet street in the heart of the old town and only minutes from a wide range of restaurants and various retail outlets. La Tour has a fully equipped kitchenette and a wide range of foods can be found close by, including the most fantastic produce market on the banks of the Saone.

Stuart, York

A truly unique property, no matter how seasoned a traveler you are! The panoramic views over the colourful rooftops to the distant Alps are astounding. The location is perfect being close to the delights of the old town as well as the bus from the main station. As many others have commented, Stephane and Patrick have thought of everything you might need and provided it! And it all fits so neatly into the limited space of a Renaissance tower house. They are very helpful and attentive landlords. Everything is charming. Three days was not enough to make the most of the accommodation or the city!

Helen, Derby

Excellent place to stay for two people, particularly arriving via public transport. Superb locality for restaurants, cafés, sites and atmosphere. The owners are extremely helpful and have an eye for quality, which is reflected in the equipment of the tower. A very confortable bed, lovely shower and relaxing living room with fascinating views.

Joanne, Frankfurt

Sub-zero temperatures outside, but we were warm, cosy and very comfortable in La Tour. A genuine welcome by owners who will do all they can to make your stay comfortable. Plenty to see and do in Lyon, all within easy reach. Perfect - definitely hope to visit again.

Erica, Newport

Really cosy. Idealy situated we did everything walking. The flat is very quiet and the view is amazing. We were three friends in the 40's, together for a WE and it was exactly what we needed.

Alix, Lausanne

The tower of La Tour is conveniently located off a quiet lane in the heart of Lyon's old quarter. The bedroom is bright and comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. The views from the tower are breathtaking and we could even see Mont Blanc 158 kms to the east on sunny afternoons. We are in our sixties and had no difficulty with the tower stairs. Indeed the time worn, medieval steps added a touch of romance to what is a very romantic apartment. The co owner Stephane could not have been more helpful to us. We will be back.

Jean, Melbourne

Very well equipped studio appartment. Perfectly situated in the hart of teh historic Lyon. Superb view.

M, Gent

We spent 5 nights in this exceptional apartment. It is generously and efficiently equipped with everything one could possibly need. Our hosts were most helpful and charming. Being right in the heart of the old town with all its buzz and then going home to blissful quiet was perfect. We shall definitely go again.

Alan, Harrogate

My wife and I stayed at La Tour in Lyon for two nights just prior to Christmas (21st and 22nd December), such a wonderful place ! Nothing was too much trouble for them and we felt truly both spoilt and supported. Warm regards

Stayed two nights in the distinctive turret apt during the Fete des Lumieres (5-8 Dec, 2015), which was canceled after the Paris tragedy. However, thoughtful Patrick and Stephane got us a bag of tea lights/dozen holders so we could participate, along with the city residents, in celebrating the historic 8 Dec tradition of placing candles in the windows. The location and views are fab! Walking distance to many sights. Apt was pristine. Stephane and Patrick couldn't have been more accommodating. They have prepared detailed guides on vital info plus local restos --enjoyed lunch at Les Adrets.

Windows with a 360 view of the neighborhood and distant views of Lyon, and on a good day, the Alps. We spent many hours mesmerized by what the windows brought including a visiting cat and the birds. We stayed a week and every minute was memorable. I suggest staying for four plus days. Glenn & Kathleen Oshiro, Ahualoa, Honokaa, HI, USA

We have just enjoyed a wonderful stay in La Tour. First of all Stephane and Patrick are really nice people, who obviously love Lyon. Would thoroughly recommend booking the tour of Old Lyon with Stephane - he is both charming and knowledgeable. The views over the rooftops of Old Lyon are amazing and we sometimes couldn't believe that we were staying in such a special place. Popping down to the local boulangerie near Gare St Paul for a morning croissant was a nice way to start each day. There are many great museums in Lyon - fine arts, Cadagne and Roman museum were highlights. Just go!

Perhaps the most amazing place i have stayed. It is a very old turret with amazing views over the rooftops of Lyon. There are all the comforts you need including coffeemaker, robes etc. i walked everywhere in Lyon from LaTour. The host Stephane is a beautiful person.
