A grand arch leads to a traditional little manor house, so the salon and dining room are unexpected – a lively zebra painting, saffron yellow and black velvet seats, leopard print fabrics and even a billiards table. It’s vibrant but still hugely comfortable, with Dorothée your helpful host (husband Xavier, teenage son and two gentle dogs complete the family). Two serene rooms lie up a hidden staircase under the sloping roof, in soft greys and touches of pink. The suite in a separate wing with its own kitchenette is great for families. It’s all perfectly placed for the Louvre-Lens or first world war sites on the Somme. Arras is even closer, 20 minutes away for meals out.
