An 1840s neo-gothic delight, now a listed historical monument, in a 16-hectare, deer-roamed park, a river for swimming and rowing, and a film set of an interior. The sitting room is splendidly ‘medieval’, the panelled drawing room pure 18th century, taken whole from a château, with superb hangings and immensely high doors. This was once a self-sufficient country estate with chapel, dovecote and mill (remains still visible). Large, lofty bedrooms have authentic wooden floors and carpets, antique cupboards, bucolic river views. Your hosts speak good English, are gracious, refined and humorous, and always there to receive guests.
