The Experience

If you like the idea of idling with an evening drink by the slow green water before an exceptionally good dinner, this is the place for you. Your hosts Valérie and Thierry have run their auberge for over two decades, so you’re in very capable hands.

Bedrooms are fresh, clean and simply decorated; choose from courtyard or river views. The star of the show is the restaurant, with tables spilling out onto the rose-covered terrace with sweet-smelling climbers. Popular with guests and locals, the restaurant serves a creative, seasonal and monthly-changing menu with plenty of vegetarian options.

Plan your day over a breakfast of homemade pastries and freshly squeezed juices. Head out on walks along the river; drive 15 minutes to the lovely town of La Flèche for shopping and cafes. Francophiles will love it here – it’s quiet, authentic and superb value, all within easy reach of several châteaux too.

This is an old-style French country hotel, good food and rest are the main attractions! The owners are French and their enthusiasm is very agreeable.

Nicky, Sawday's Inspector

Delightful little hotel and the best meal of our whole 3 week trip to France! We enjoyed our apéritif by the river although sadly not warm enough for dinner on the terrace. Quite hard to find as village is not on any map we could find and satnav was a bit dodgy!

This is a delightful little Auberge and it is exceptionally well managed by the owners. Our room was comfortable, well decorated and spotlessly clean. We were made to feel very welcome. The food in the restaurant is really very good. we will definitely be returning. One to bookmark!

So pleased with our visit that we stopped on the way home too. Supper is worth booking, and as it was so hot, the chairs by the river Loir were so welcome. We sat in the shade with the dog, quietly reading until supper was served. Okay, the room was a little small but exceptionally clean. The staff are very thoughtful and courteous and the owners could not be kinder. Well worth a stop over on the way or stopping on the way home.

The neighbourhood

In the sleepy hamlet of Luche Pringé on the unsung Loir River, low-lying meadows dotted with dozing cows and willow trees surround. Le Lude's château is a 12-minute drive; Langeais and Villandry are must-sees for their world-famous gardens. La Flèche has a well-known zoo, terrific auction house and weekly market. On sunny days hire kayaks and paddle down the Loir, passing the auberge on the way.

Local points of interest from Valérie & Thierry Lesiourd

  • We're on an old port next to the river where tufa rock used to be transported to build the surrounding houses.
  • Near Château du Lude (10 km)
  • Magnificent garden 20km away (Le Jardin du Petit Bordeaux)
  • Zoo de la Flèche 15km away
  • The Bercé Forest
