The Experience

Annie used to have her own restaurant in Devon so whether you are outside on her little stone terrace overlooking open fields and forest or inside at her long antique table, it will be a Cordon Bleu breakfast. Multi-talented Annie could open an antique shop: her lovingly collected artefacts decorate this sweet little farmhouse like a dream from the past. The paint work is gorgeous, the vintage linens are sumptuous, the towels are thirsty, the mattresses are from heaven. You can walk to town, pick a trail in the forest or rent a canoe and follow the lazy river Lay. Annie’s dinners are renowned, even the Mayor comes to dine.

Reviews

A lovely little B&B, and Annie is just the nicest host ever, we very much hope to return.

Sarah, Brighton

A very characterful BnB, with a warm welcome, much needed after many hours on the road, a long traffic delay etc. A lovely comfortable room and superb evening meal cooked by chef Annie, a former restaurateur. A delicious breakfast too. We will definitely come back if passing this way again.

Steve, Petersfield

Fabulous place to stay! I enjoyed Annie’s wonderful hospitality - the house is a delight and her cooking is outstanding. Excellent wine, and no stinting either. Breakfast was equally generous and delicious. But the cherry on the cake is Annie herself, so interesting, welcoming and friendly. And especially kind to me, recently made a widow. Annie empathised and was just the perfect person to stay with on my first lone drive through France. La Landarie is now on my “well worth more visits” list and I’d say don’t only stay if you’re passing that way – make a special effort to do so.

An absolute delight and highly recommended. We stayed only one night to break our journey south but would have stayed longer if we could. Annie is lovely; she is very welcoming and is a fantastic chef. Our evening meal was delicious and great value. The house is amazing; Annie could never move because it would take so long for her to pack everything! Our room/suite was lovely and very comfortable.

What a perfect, peaceful spot to spend a night when travelling south. Annie could not be more welcoming in sharing the lovely home she has created. Spacious, cool and comfortable accommodation combined with the most delicious meal! We can't wait to return for lunch, when we visit the area again in October.

Lynne, Ludlow

We stayed here just one night on our way further south and received a really warm welcome from Annie. We were able to enjoy an aperitif and nibbles in the garden, even though it was late March, before going inside for a lovely meal cooked by Annie. Our room was really comfortable and from where we were lucky enough to see a young kestrel flying out of the barn the next morning. We would certainly like to return for a further visit.

We stayed at Annie's delightful home in the Vendee for 4 nights to see the Tour de France. We had read about Annie's legendary suppers (thanks to other Sawdays' recommendations).. in a word: Wow! What Annie creates from local market produce is nothing short of sublime. Not only that, she is a warm and welcoming hostess. Needless to say we cancelled all plans to eat elsewhere and were treated to 3 more truly exquisite suppers. Whether you're travelling north, south, east or west through France, a detour to the Vendee to have supper at Annie's is a must! Booking essential.

We stayed at La Maison de Landerie for one night on our way south and Annie was the perfect host. We had a really comfortable room in a lovely farmhouse tucked away from the world. Annie provided refreshments - fabulous tea from Devon on arrival and after a wander around the area we had some glasses of Rosé and nibbles followed by a magnificent meal prepared by Annie. What a treat at the start of our holiday and we recommend a visit either as a stop over or for a longer break. Just remember to book the evening meal!

Michael & Jane, Bristol

We stayed with Annie for two nights dinner, bed and breakfast on the way from Roscoff and on one further night on the way back. Annie is a warm and welcoming host to her beautiful farmhouse. The decor is enchanting, like a spread from Country Living magazine, but never mind that. The room was large and comfortable, but never mind that. The food, ahh, the food! go there for the food!

james, Okehampton devon

Annie farmhouse was an absolute delight, her house is full of interesting bricabrac and beautiful bedrooms! We booked dinner for the evening and were very pleasantly surprised at the fabulous gourmet meal which was even better than the Michelin Star meal we had had the previous week! This BandB is worth doing a detour for we'd thoroughly recommend it! The Crawfords, Surrey

We paid our second visit to La Maison de Landerie and found the same welcome as before from our very friendly hostess. Annie's house is exquisitely decorated and furnished, the bedrooms and facilities extremely comfortable and Annie's dinner to die for! She provides dishes that her guests will appreciate and the settings both in the dining room or on the terrace are perfect,,,with wonderful views over open countryside. We were looking for a relaxing break from the busy life we are leading at the moment and were not disappointed. We highly recommend a stay here. Pretty special!

Annie has a beautiful house and we felt very at home and relaxed with her. We enjoyed the different company and conversations over dinner and especially we enjoyed the excellent meals she cooked for us. Tea was provided on arrival in the shadier parts of the beautiful garden, plus pre-dinner wine and olives, then a wonderful meal with wine included. Annie even managed to provide us with our own personal bird-watching spectacular of kestrels feeding their young in the barn next door. An amazing meal, stylish and comfortable home with a welcoming atmosphere. We will return!

Heather, Knowle

My third visit.....a superb stop over... or as a base for leisurely exploring the area...greeted by a glass of good red with nibbles by your charming host is just what's reguired after a long day....and later a beautiful dinner before retiring to very comfortable bed ....and all but a few minutes from the Autoroute ....

Mick, Javea

What a find. A wonderfully warm welcome after a long day travelling. The evening meal, cooked by Annie, was delicious. Our room was comfortable and relaxing and very well equipped. Breakfast was equally as good. We would definitely recommend and hope to visit again soon.

Shawn, Colne

Superb in every way... fabulous welcome, tea/coffee with home made biscuits, excellent room, luxury bedding, good facilities. Wonderful hostess, Annie, prepares gourmet food with wine in the peace and tranquility of what was once a dairy farm and all within a few minutes of the Autoroute... I do hope I can manage to visit again, stay longer and explore the charming area.

Michael, Javea/Alicante

A quite unique and delightful place to stay. Annie is a wonderful patronne- she does everything herself with charm. friendly elegance and a personal style. She is also a magnificent chef so dont even think about eating anywhere else! You will not be disappointed and will always have fond memories of your stay.

We stayed two nights with Annie on our way to the Dordogne. The Vendee is a lovely part of France and La Landerie is a superbe place to stay. The accommodation was first class. Annie served delicious food and I am not suprised that the locals go there for meals. Annie was hospitable, charming and good fund. We have stayed in many of Sawday's B&Bs. This was one of the best. We intend to return.

Janet

A perfect little oasis to rest after a long day in the car heading to the south of France. Annie was most charming in her welcome and provided a delicious home-cooked, traditional French meal with generous quantities of wine. The room was comfortable, extremely spacious and elegantly decorated. Exceptional value for such a lovely place to stay.

Trudi

We Stayed with Annie for four nights and she was the perfect host. The suite was beautiful and had everything we needed. Annie is a wonderful chef and prepared 5 course meals, whenever we got hungry. We will definitely visit again and hope that it'll not be too long to taste her wonderful apple and strawberry pie baked with her secret recipe. Annie is a sweet heart!!

Julia

Annie is a gem. Her bedrooms are so comfortable and our four day stay there was wonderful. Annie is a superb chef and each evening we were treated to an exquisite four course meal. We shall return.
