The
Experience

In the centre of a small, quiet village in the southern Vendée, near the local fruit farm and a short bike ride from the boulangerie, through a gateway between wisteria-clad walls to a large sunny courtyard, a perfect spot for an outdoor lunch. Gather the clan: the Logis, a classic 19th-century French country villa, sleeps up to 12; Les Lavandes, a smaller, detached cottage, works well for up to eight. Children love the extensive grounds, with swings, cricket oval, trampoline, toddler-friendly heated pool, even a football pitch. Relax in spacious rooms in calming shades of yellow; sink into the leather sofa in the library in front of the old fireplace. This is traditional country life: wooden floors and original patterned tiles, a good scattering of rugs, long floral curtains and time-worn furniture. In the cottage, simple furnishings, sloping ceilings and low beams for plainer, rustic living. Well-equipped kitchens, comfortable beds and unfussy bathrooms throughout. Spend days cycling in the forest of Mervent, exploring historic Fontenay-le-Comte, or lazing on the beach of La Faute Sur Mer under an hour away.

Reviews

This is a lovely place. The pool is wonderful. The home is spacious and well maintained. It has all the facilities you need. There one or two touches that make it really special. For me it was the well stocked library and the beautiful and peaceful wildlife meadow, full of flowers, butterflies and song birds.

Ceri, Cardiff

Beautiful setting. Charming hosts. Delightful accommodation. Magical gardens. A wonderful week spent swimming, cycling and exploring the local area with our 3 young children.

Local points of interest from Abi Draper

  • Both properties benefit from the large walled garden of the Logis with children's play area (including sandpit), large trampoline, badminton, croquet and the beautiful securely walled heated swimming pool.
  • There is also a covered games area with table tennis, table football and skittles, and beyond the garden is our own field with wild flowers ideal for football, kiteflying, blackberry picking and cycling on our homegrown cycle track or butterfly maze.
  • Alternatively you could just relax in a quiet shady corner or on the hammock and listen to the birdsongs - our organic garden and field are a haven for birds and birdwatchers. In August spot glow worms under hedges or watch shooting stars from our field.
  • Free use of our large selection of adults and children's bicycles is included, ideal for exploring the surrounding countryside and forest.
  • Walking, cycling, romanesque churches, wine tasting, boating, canoeing, zoo, adventure park, fishing, historic market towns and château, one of the prettiest villages in France with an annual art festival - all can be enjoyed within a 15 minute drive.
  • Slightly further afield are the lush green waterways and Abbeys of the Marais Poitevin, the amazing historic theme park Puy du Fou, the beautiful sandy beach at La Faute sur Mer and La Rochelle and the Isle de Ré
