Clonleason sets the standard for self-catering in Ireland. Sinead has converted the Georgian lodge into the dandiest cottage that indulges the senses and yet, despite the luxury and attention to detail, never feels overly perfect: roses meet honeysuckle, country-house elegance meets cosy cottage. It lies secluded among trees at the end of her drive with only the odd tractor to interrupt the peace. You enter by the welcoming kitchen: a Welsh dresser storing patterned Portmeirion china, red deal cupboards distressed to create a limewash effect, oven, dishwasher, microwave and all the basics generously provided. Left is the sitting room: books, paintings and a comfy cream sofa in front of an open fire โ€“ so civilised. French doors open onto a terrace and a beautiful secret garden that leads to a small stream and the wild fields. The bedroom has lots of storage, fresh white linen on an excellent bed, coir matting and a pretty shower room. If you can drag yourself away, there are lovely river walks. Enchanting.

We've just returned home after having spent 3 nights at Clonleason Gate Lodge...and we want to go back already. Sinead's warm welcome, the cleanliness of the cottage, the atmosphere and attention to detail were just amazing. From the milk and homemade carrot cake waiting for us in the fridge, to the fresh daffodils in the lounge and kitchen, the log fire, patio door leading into the secret garden, European adapter plugs, everything was perfect. I'd love to come back in the summer and see everything in the garden in full bloom - the magnolias and rhododendrons must be glorious. Thank you!

We simply love this cottage with its comfort and charm in abundance. Sinead and John are the most welcoming yet unobtrusive hosts you could wish for. They maintain the Gate Lodge to an exceptionally high standard. It is impossible not to relax and unwind - comfy sofa, real fire and loads of good books, CDs and DVDs to choose from. Outside is also a real treat, being able to wander through Clonleason's wonderful garden trails and then also to have your own hidden garden to explore. We have travelled a lot but keep coming back to this gorgeous Gate Lodge - it is somewhere truly special.
