The Experience
Lawns run down to the lake, a path leads up to the woods; beyond is a garden for veg and a paddock for charging about. The view raises your spirit, the peace restores your soul. The two 18th-century stone lodges stand creeper-clung round a courtyard, the stables stand apart. Inside they’re unassuming and reassuringly dated but this is pure Swallows and Amazons; you’ll mainly be outside.
There are armchairs before open fires, and views through French doors to private terraces stretching out to the limpid lake and moorland. Kayaks are waiting on the jetty (with all the safety equipment), rich fishing and wild swimming too.
Walks abound and you are surrounded by donkeys, chickens and friendly dogs. Babysitting can be arranged if you ask ahead.

We loved Mount Cashel, it is very special. There is so much to do with the lake at the end of the garden (boats, kayaks, raft for swimming all provided) and beautiful places to drive to. The lodge was really comfortable and everything was provided to make our stay hassle-free. Brilliant!

Location
The neighbourhood
You're deep in the unspoilt East Clare Lakelands. In your kayak you can paddle right across the lake, enter the river then join another lake. So water sports lovers will be in their element. Walkers and cyclists too can join many paths and routes. Sixmilebridge - 10 minutes by car - has shops; Limerick is half an hour, as is pretty Lough Derg and Killaloe.
Local points of interest from Pat & Annette Shanahan
- Great fun with Lake boats and Kayaks on Castle lake at the bottom of the garden.
- Ideal location for exploring the west of Ireland; West Clare, Galway, Dingle Peninsula and Ring of Kerry.
- Meet the locals in Sixmilebridge pubs and restaurants. Bunratty castle & folk park just 10 mins away. 20 minutes to Limerick, Shannon or Ennis.
- Close to the Wild Atlantic Way and the Cliffs of Moher are just 40mins away.
- Guests are welcome to produce from the garden and eggs from the hens.
- Just 20 minutes from Shannon Airport; two hours from Dublin Airport.

Introducing
Pat & Annette Shanahan
Pat and Annette so love this place that it's infectious; families come back year after year and get looked after beautifully. Everything you need to have a relaxing family holiday is here for you.
We had a wonderful stay with family at Mount Cashel. Everything was perfect: the accommodation is luxurious with great ensuite bathrooms, the views over the lake are beautiful and you can take a boat out. Pat even opened the on- site traditional bar for us and we enjoyed a drink or two and a few songs in front of a roaring fire. You could spend the whole holiday here but it is in a superb location for exploring the Wild Atlantic Way. We are already planning a return visit.
