The
Experience
Tiny Askeaton is one of the oldest villages in Ireland, tucked between the ruins of Desmond Castle and the Franciscan Friary: the area buzzes with medieval history. Slip through simple iron gates and up a long track to Inchirourke (still a working organic farm) and your converted cow shed. Yasmin and Donagh, whose family have lived here for 400 years, will be there to greet you with an assortment of friendly dogs. Step inside and rusticity is forgotten! Here you find something more akin to a smart Chelsea apartment: white ceramic floors heated underfoot, a high loft ceiling with exposed beams, an open fireplace at one end, and light streaming in through a wall of windows – just lovely. The kitchen is a good and bright place to cook, but you can have breakfast and dinner brought to you if you prefer – choose B&B or just do-it-yourself. Bedrooms are at either end of the living room, one with a bath, the other with a tiled wet room; both have antique furniture, great beds and softly patterned Roman blinds at small windows with deep sills. There are 500 acres to wander, woodland for scampering and the river Deel for fishing.

I stayed here with my family. My 2 kids, ages 8 and 10, saw the Cliffs of Moher, the Ring of Kerry, and the Burren while in Ireland. None of those compare to the joy they felt staying here. Getting to join Donagh around the farm, playing with the dogs, and just being on the farm were the highlights of their vacation. They were both crying when we left. My only regret was we didn't have more time at the cottage. My youngest made me promise we could return.

We headed for Courtyard Cottage straight after a tiring flight and quickly recovered in a beautiful and homely setting, dogs and all. The cottage was modern, well-stocked and very comfortable. We joined Donagh on his morning round of the farm... a great way to get our fill of fresh air and exercise. The kids had an unforgettable experience rounding up a cow and bull in the afternoon, part of it on a quad bike!! Donagh was a warm and thoughtful host, interesting company and amazing with the kids who were very impressed with the frosted chocolate cake he made. A great place for a family holiday.

I loved this place...was one of our favorites stays in three weeks traveling UK and France. I just wished we had more time to enjoy the beautiful and peaceful settings. The owner, Donagh, was awesome. I highly recommend, especially if you have children.

Simply perfect. We were welcomed with warm cake and vauses of freshly picked flowers. The children loved helping out on the farm almost as much as their Mum enjoyed her lie in surrounded by Irish linens, beautiful furniture and the sounds of the countryside drifting in through the open window.

Location
The welcome by Donagh O'Grady made one almost feel part of his family from the start. This is a beautifully converted outbuilding which is extremely comfortable and set in delightful unspoilt countryside. Would be delighted to stay there again.
