Hilton Park is a stunning one-off, a majestic building in beautiful grounds that has been in the same family since it was built in 1734. The setting has something of an 18th-century Gainsborough and since this most imposing country house lies in a less-visited part of Ireland its original spirit remains intact. Johnny deserves much of the credit for this, steadfastly refusing to turn the family pile into a theme park and taking huge care of wildlife habitats and woodland (pine martens and red squirrels have even returned). Walk the estate and see why he's holding on. Explore the biodynamic kitchen garden where Lucy grows for the table – and maybe for her next book. They are a strong intelligent couple, now joined by chef son Fred and his wife Joanna. Enjoy fine dinners before an incomparable view that stretches across formal gardens and mature parkland to a lake where the evening sun glints. The three master bedrooms are fabulous, the odd heirloom lends charm to the others, and refurbishment is ongoing. Lounge in splendid decadence and let Hilton Park cast its spell.

"We spent 2 nights in this beautiful 18th century manor house surrounded by rolling green countryside with sheep milling pasturing. The house is beautifully appointed with gorgeous antiques, while remaining very comfortable and relaxing, in large part due to the gracious and friendly owners/hosts, Fred and Joanna Madden. Fred is also the chef who prepares copious, organic breakfasts, while the dinners served in the sumptuous dining room were exceptional 3 course gourmet meals. This is the perfect place to explore Fermanagh and enjoy the beauty of Ireland and its people."

"Hilton Park is quite simply the perfect Irish getaway. I've visited twice and it's a place I hope to return many times in the future. The grounds offer stunning views and rambling paths to stroll away the sumptuous meals, which rival any gourmet cuisine I've sampled in Ireland. The house is full of history and heirlooms, and really feels like a slice of old world luxury. What really made our stay however was the wonderful hospitality we received. I would happily recommend one of the country's best kept secrets!"
