La Piana dei Castagni Agriturismo

Castel d'Aiano, Bologna
Bed & Breakfast

Simple pleasures for those who love to get away from it all - good walks in the bucolic countryside by day, delicious food by night

4 rooms

Rooms sleep 2 – 3

Write, paint, read or potter: here, deep in the woods, there’s nothing to distract you. This is a secret little Hansel and Gretel house with a vegetable patch, demure shutters and lace-trimmed curtains. It stands isolated among chestnut and cherry trees, reached via a long, wriggling track; below are bucolic meadows, falling to a farm or two, and a further distant descent along the yawning valley. An old stone farmhouse converted and adapted for B&B, La Piana is a modest, homely and cosy place to stay. The bedrooms, named after local berries, are painted in clear pastel colours; tiny pictures hang above beds and little windows set in thick walls look out over the glorious valley. The shower rooms – one of them a restyled chicken shed! – are simply tiled. Valeria lives ten minutes away at La Civetta. She is gentle, kind, spoiling; her breakfast torta di noci are homemade, her lasagne is delicious. She will also help organise everything, from trekking to truffle hunting. An ideal spot for those who love the simple pleasures of life: good walks by day, good food by night.

Wonderful, beautiful and with amazing food! Great value for money. Thank you for our stay!

Elliot, London

We returned this year full of anticipation and we were not disappointed. Every aspect of our stay was wonderful from Valeria's warm welcome onwards. Valeria's breakfasts go on and on, fresh and all homemade. Her dinners are to die for, pasta made that morning light and mouth watering, why can't all pasta taste like this? The meal accompanied by local wines that were lovely and there really were fireflies in the garden after dinner. We settled in the garden but were constantly distracted just by the view which is outstanding never mind the wild life. A lovely quiet corner of real Italy.

Last month we spent a super week with Valeria at Piana dei Castagna. It was all that you said, peaceful and calm with magnificent views and friendly chickens and cock! Valeria couldn't have been more helpful and we intend to go for much longer next year. We will have no difficulty in recommending her to anyone, but not for the time that we will be there!!!

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Valeria Vitali

  • You are not far from wonderful art cities: Florence 90 km, 45 km Bologna. Modena 60 Km Ferrara, Ravenna, Lucca and Pisa Pistoia. Also very beautiful medieval villages such as Vignola, Savignano, Castelvetro
  • Balsamic vinegar, Parmesan cheese, Parma ham are produced in this area. Is possible to taste them, buy them, but also, upon request, visit the facilities and follow the stages of processing. Are you interested? ask Valeria!
  • Do you like walking? There are well-marked trails that will take you to places sadly historical (Gothic Line in World War II), but also where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the beautiful Tuscan Emilian Apennines!
  • Tortelloni, tagliatelle, tortellini, mushrooms truffles and cured meats of all kinds are the specialties you can find in the many restaurants in the area. Here, there are still a few tourists and the food is fresh and genuine!
  • Maserati, Ferrari in Maranello, Lamborghini and Ducati in Bologna. If you want we can help you organize your visits to these galleries and museums really special .........
  • The silence is really the main feature of our house. And quietly, sipping a glass of wine can wait for the passage of some wild animal. The forest is home to deer, foxes, wild boars, porcupines and owls!
