The Experience

Right by the Coliseum, in one of Rome’s largest squares where pieces of the ancient city are scattered on all sides, is this newly restored, well-organised apartment. Here you’ll find a delightful combination of youth, dedication and family tradition with a fresh sense of hospitality and great sensitivity to travellers’ needs. Stefano and Maria offer all the modern amenities in their comfortable, informal place in an authentic part of Rome, away from the tourist clamour yet within walking distance of everything. They have used reclaimed timber, Grandmother’s furniture, great fabrics, the occasional updated chandelier and an understated Italian sense of style to create a shabby-chic, contemporary mood in six charming bedrooms. With their high ceilings and big French windows, they are luminous and airy with brand new mattresses and a neat shower room in each. Breakfast is brought to you in your room – at a time that suits you. The magnificent St John in Lateran, Rome’s first church, is just round the corner. On Sunday, hire a bike and ride the lovely Appian Way.

Maria knows how to greet and look after her guests; she waited for us in the building lobby, arriving late, and booked an excellent nearby restaurant. Our room was spacious and beautifully fitted with an excellent bathroom. The location being a little way from the centre but within walking distance and next to a tram stop is good and less touristy. Maria advised us of places to see close by and further away. Happy to return for a longer stay.

This guest house is perfect. Our room was much bigger than we expected and perfectly clean and beautiful. Breakfast delivered to the room on a tray is a real treat. We took Marias' advice and used all public transport and it was a doddle. If you need a day away from the city try Castel Gandolfo for a lakeside lunch - 30 mins on the train. Maria spent time with us and recommended nearby Roman restaurants and the best ice cream parlour, she's a great source of information. Choose Adelina, it's a wonderful base when you need to recharge after a crazy day in Rome - you wont be disappointed.

Adelina guest house was a great place for an end October stay in Rome - well located and very comfortable. Maria and her family were excellent hosts, so helpful with information, and making reservations for us; which meant we managed to see much more than we expected - encouraging us to use local transport, and to cycle along the Appian Way - things that we might not have accomplished otherwise. Bringing us breakfast in our rooms every morning was a perfect start to each day.

Maria (the owner) was wonderful, Sue broke her arm and Maria helped wonderfully, even offering to go to the hospital to get a certificate to fly from them as our language skills were a touch patchy. She phoned them and reassured us that the paperwork was acceptable to the airline and it was. The rooms are spotless and spacious. Highly recommended, Grazie Mille Maria.

If like me you're looking for that somewhere special, do not hesitate. This place is indeed special and the hosts, Maria and Stefan are lovely too. It gives you that homely feeling as soon as you step in with the coffee & tea area in reception. We had Room No. 4 which is fantastic. Great space, lovely décor, the most comfortable bed ever, a beautiful bathroom, a Bluetooth linked smart TV. What more could you want? Great big windows overlooking the area which shut out all the noise. A fantastic location, 10 min walk to Coliseum, tram and taxi station nearby. A truly lovely place.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Stefano Ruggiero

  • The Tramjazz starts right in front of our front door! Enjoy a delicious dinner aboard a Roman historical tram. Let yourself be lulled by the journey while looking out on Roma from the window, listening to a jazz concert ...on the road!
  • Just 15-minute walk away you will discover three of the "Way of the 7 churches": St Maria Maggiore, the favourite of Pope Francis, St. John Lateran, the first papal seat and St. Croce in Jerusalem with the holy reliques of the cross of Jesus Christ.
  • Food is one of our city's strengths. We are lucky to have several good local restaurants nearby, frequented by locals ... you will be tempted by authentic recipes from the past!
  • We are much more than a B&B. We provide all our kindness and professionalism. We know very well our city, but not all. Help us to grow and to learn new things. Let yourselves be inspired by us... we won’t disappoint you!
  • Two Sundays a month, a few visitors will have the opportunity to enter the underground of Basilica of Porta Maggiore, a neo-pythagorean Basilica of the first century A.D. The stucco on the walls are very striking representing mythological scenes!
  • Shopping is an absolute must on a trip. The “Via Appia” is here just for this! Take a look at the many shops before going for a Tiramisu at Pompi in Piazza Re di Roma or a happy hour at Panella in Via Merulana.
